Hi, I'm trying to fix the rc.d script of proftpd. The deamon seems to start and work correctly as it ask for username/password but I always get a: 530 Login incorrect. Login failed. This only happens on x86_64. I get the same problem with the package currently in extra. As no one has complained and James confirmed that it worked for him at the last bug squash day, I assume it is a config/hardware issue but I simply can't put my finger on the problem. Because of this and because I don't use the package anymore, it would be better if someone else maintains it. Anyone interested? I have the updated PKGBUILD and script. If not we could: a) move it to unsupported as we already have several ftp servers in extra b) I would be willing to continue to maintain it but I'll need someone else to build/test/upload the x86_64 package as I can't test it. c) this is the more cumbersome. I could continue to maintain and build for both arches but every update will go to testing first for signoffs. The new 2.6.25 kernel and most of the external modules are in [testing]. Changes: - Complete configuration overhaul - Removed phc patch - Removed mactel patch The removal of these patches was because a) there are no new patches available for 2.6.25 and b) I am trying to reduce the amount of patching, especially if it only benefits a few people or can be potentially dangerous. If there are any problems due to the configuration changes or new kernel bugs, please let me know. If you want to know more about the real changes, read here: http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_25 I didn't update any modules, so if there are new versions available for any, please inform their maintainers. The following modules are currently broken. I didn't do any research on those yet, so if anyone knows something, please let me know. - atl2 (Simo, could you have a look, you must probably update it) - catalyst - martian - openswan-klips - slmodem (USB symbols are now GPL only, this driver will never work again unless it's rewritten in userspace - is this only a USB driver or also a PCI driver?) [arch-dev-public] CVS links in AUR?

So, is there a reason we had to break CVS links in the AUR interface? I guess one could get the community tree from here: http://www.archlinux.org/cvs/, but the information is wrong as well (cvs.archlinux.org does not exist). The only way is abs now, which is quite inconvenient if one only wants to check out a single package. The links in the AUR interface should work.

I've pasted the full output below, but what I wanted to point out is the "missing ide-cd module" part. Some of us unfortunately still have to use IDE. in testing for both arches -Arch * Changes in Wget 1.11.1. ** Interrupted downloads no longer result in renaming the file (regression in 1.11 over 1.10.2). ** Progress bar now displays correctly in non-English locales (and a related assertion failure was fixed). ** Wget no longer issues a GET request over HTTP for files it should know it's not going to download (regression in 1.11 over 1.10.2). ** Added option --auth-no-challenge, to support broken pre-1.11 authentication-before-server-challenge, which turns out to still be useful for some limited cases. ** Documentation of accept/reject lists in the manual's "Types of Files" section now explains various aspects of their behavior that may be surprising, and notes that they may change in the future. ** Documentation of --no-parents now explains how a trailing slash, or lack thereof, in the specified URL, will affect behavior.

update from 0.27.2-1 to 0.28.2-1 shouldn't break anything as they call it "API and ABI backwards-compatible with 0.27.x" I'm not sure how to test neon functionality. [arch-dev-public] testing ->core/extra movement instructions?

Can someone give clear instructions on how to move things from testing to core and/or extra? I've done some packages a while ago, which were graphviz and glib2. Looking again, I see glib2 isn't moved at all and graphviz has been fixed up by some other dev last week. What's going on here?

Hi guys, what is the state of the inkscape package? It's my package but I kinda lost track in the big move. SVN history says it gots rebuild for poppler which is in extra and later against imagemagick which is in testing. How ever none of those ever made it to extra, henci it is broken. Any ideas? -Tobias

[arch-dev-public] The /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/updates directory - and how great it is

The module-init-tools have had this feature for a while and I just wanted to tell you about how we can use it: The modules contained in the updates/ subdirectory in your module directory are always preferred over any other modules. Thus, you can put updated modules into it which supercede the ones installed by our kernel. This is great, I'll just give some examples: - The compat-wireless package uses it That's how I know about it. compat-wireless puts a complete new mac80211 tree with drivers into updates/. This means it is easy to get updated wireless drivers without conflicting with the stock kernel and without having to rebuild the whole kernel. - ALSA updates ALSA has been known to be a bitch. Sometimes the drivers in the stock Linux kernel are out of date and an updated driver will help. Now, we could provide a PKGBUILD via AUR which installs the latest ALSA drivers to updates/ - this would give a user the possibility to use an updated alsa without having to rebuild the kernel, conflict with the kernel or having to delete files and confuse pacman. - Random patches to drivers It has happened that users wanted a particular feature enabled or changed in a particular driver. There is the phc undervolt patch and there is some toshiba-bluetooth patch still in our kernel. Now I don't like forcing patched drivers on people who don't need it, and generally, our community likes vanilla kernels more. With the updates/ directory it is possible to provide these special cases via PKGBUILDs/AUR - provided the change is only in the module(s) in question, one could patch it, build it and put it into the updates/ directory. Without having a patched kernel, the users could be happy - again, no kernel rebuilding or hacky conflicting. (In the above cases, only the acpi-cpufreq resp. the toshiba-acpi modules are modified ... nothing is modified in the kernel itself). I already plan to maintain compat-wireless as a binary package. I will also put an alsa-driver-updates package into the AUR. And I will try to package the modified toshiba-acpi module so I can drop the patch from the kernel (I will also put this in AUR then). I hope this will make life easier for us and for many users in our community - it is a much cleaner thing than patching the kernel all the time.
