[arch-dev-public] current state of packages in core/base and some of extra for release media

Hi guys, somewhere between now and now + a few weeks I would like to release new official media. I will be building new testing builds this week, so to all maintainers who maintain packages in core/base or one of the following packages in extra: aufs2, aufs2-util, ddrescue, dosfstools, elinks, gnu-netcat, joe, lftp, memtest86+, nmap, ntfs-3g, ntfsprogs, ntp, parted, speedtouch, squashfs-tools, syslinux, tcpdump. anything i should know? anything important that has changed recently, or will change? should i wait for a new pacman? any new must-haves? PS: can someone build a new initscripts package? the 2010 copyright is fixed in git, but not yet packaged. Dieter

This is an upstream kernel release, including security fixes. Packages will enter testing within the next hour. We had a gcc 4.4 -> 4.5 version bump, so the external modules are still compiled with 4.4, while the kernel is compiled with 4.5. If any external modules break (usual candidates are nvidia and aufs2), we will have to rebuild them with 4.5 as well. Please test this update thoroughly and sign off. Please provide feedback about the state of our nvidia and aufs2 (or other external) builds, so we know whether we require a rebuild.

[arch-dev-public] CUPS backend for both libusb-based and usblp-based access

I know users with multidevices have a serious problems with recent 1.4.0 update because they can only use either the scanner or the printer. I've just found this patch from Till Kapeter, the main OpenPrinting(foomatic) developer and Debian cups package maintainer. http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3357 I assume this could solve all outstanding issues. But sure this is not the current upstream way. And I cannot test it in any way because I don't have such a device. This is to show affected users a possible way to recompile our cups packages with this patch. If it really solves the trouble we might think if it should be done manually (we could put the patch into svn though). That would receive my vote. Or if we could trust Debian here and provide stuff that is not the upstream way but - if proved - solves all the trouble. I couldn't provide any help but doing building the packages. This is a replacement for the procinfo package which is so old that it must be patched for the 2.6 kernel (and I am not sure where that patch originally came from...). I use the Debian strategy and pull the help scripts lsdev and socklist from the old procinfo package. Signoff both, Allan
