Hi, I thought this might be interesting for everyone, so I send a mail here instead of filing a bug report. If you are using install scripts in your packages, make sure the commands you are calling are actually installed before by adjusting your dependencies. Alternatively it might be needed to test if a certain command is available and silently abort if it is not. I found this issue in the iputils install script which fails on a new install as the vercmp command is not found: if [ "$(vercmp $2 20101006-3)" -le 0 ]; then echo " >> Traceroute is now provided by core/traceroute" fi This might be new for some of us, but yes: vercmp is part of the pacman package, but before this is available in a new install 94 other packages get installed, among these is iputils. In general these issues can be solved by adding the needed dependencies to the package. But you need to be really careful to avoid circular or other insane dependencies. In this case adding pacman as a dependency is a bad idea. I would suggest to either remove this statement completely as it just adds useless noise or at least check if vercmp is available; if not we can assume no previous version of iputils was installed. These issues usually affect only packages in [core], especially those in the base group. A new Arch install is created by extracting those packages into an almost empty directory. At this moment it looks like GNOME 3.6 is pretty much finished in gnome-unstable and should be ready for a move to testing soon. Things that come to my mind before we can declare this finished: - evolution-exchange has not been updated upstream and doesn't build - same for evolution-groupwise - we would like to have evolution-mapi packaged instead, but needs the samba4 client libraries Another thing about libwebkit/webkitgtk: - webkitgtk3 in gnome-unstable is the GTK 3.x port of Webkitgtk, version 1.10.x - libwebkit in extra builds libwebkit and libwebkit3, version 1.8.x I would like to rename libwebkit to webkitgtk2 and drop the GTK3 build from that package. As long as webkitgtk2 1.10.x doesn't build, we should stick to 1.8.x for the GTK2 version of this package. As the main improvement of 1.10.x and higher is the addition of Webkit2 (which requires GTK3 anyways), this is not a big issue. Besides these issues, we should check for bumped sonames and rebuild any package that depends on these sonames. So far gnome-desktop has been covered, but other packages like evolution-data-server come to my mind.

[arch-dev-public] GHC 7.6.1 now in [testing]

Hey everyone! It's that time again for arch to get the latest ghc! GHC 7.6.1 comes with a bunch of new and exciting features: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/7.6.1/html/users_guide/release-7-6-1.html This morning, all the haskell packages should have been rebuilt against the latest ghc and I have moved all haskell pkgs to testing. One caveat is that cabal-install wasn't rebuilt but it should still work while upstream works on patching it for ghc 7.6.1 It took just under a month to do the full rebuild because of the amount of patching and coordination with upstream we had to do. I will let it sit in testing for a week so that aur maintainers for haskell pkgs have time to investigate and patch their packages. I would like to thank everyone who worked on this rebuild! Cheers!

Hi guys, With systemd-193 and linux-3.6 we will finally have reliable support for btrfs multi-device filesystems (assembling them used to be racy). However, the added udev rules that makes this work do not work at all on pre-3.6 kernels. We could keep the old (racey) rules in the btrfs package to deal with this situation. However, that means scanning all btrfs devices twice on boot for everyone on post-3.6 kernels. As I expect the number of people using multi-device btrfs (which is still experimental) with an linux-lts kernel to be limited, I'm not too keen on optimizing for this case. I propose we either just drop the old btrfs rules and tell users of linux-lts+btrfs multi-device to upgrade to linux, or we add the rules to the linux-lts package. Any thoughts? Cheers, Tom
