[arch-dev-public] Can anyone take nvidia-390xx?

I don't run nvidia-390xx on any of my devices. I would appreciate it if somebody could take those drivers. I will continue maintaining the mainline nvidia package.

[arch-dev-public] Improving overall experience for contributors

Hi all, Spending some time outside the regular Arch circles, I realized that the way we "outreach" potential contributors is at least imperfect. One of the problems I keep hearing about is that there is no clear place where potential contributors could start. Sure, some things seem obvious to us: take care of some wiki article or adopt orphan AUR packages. It isn't actually that easy. Not everyone is interested in editing or maintaining random packages, and while there is plenty to do, how someone new could know it? We could use help not only with existing projects like archweb, pyalpm or namcap, but also with development of new code (for example a maintainable rebuild automation) and infrastructure side (which is in fact too generic term that could be better described). I am totally in love with What can I do for Mozilla?[1] which is open source, so why not steal this wonderful idea? But it also means we need a way to communicate with people interested in helping us: at least an IRC channel and new mailing list. Another thing that I heard in last few months isthat it is actually hard for potential TU candidates to find a sponsor. While I believe it is perfectly fine to e-mail few potential sponsors to ask for opinion, throwing random messages at people doesn't sound really appealing. In my humble opinion, we should rethink the way we recruit people and probably introduce fine-grained permissions to dbscripts that would allow to limit new maintainers to limited set of packages. We should also lower our expectations towards candidates. At least once we rejected one for some stupid reason (no fingerpointing here, I'm not saint either), leaving packages they wanted to adopt virtually orphan. It's better to help amn inexperienced packager gain experience than voting no, really; to be brutally honest, quite a lot of packaging work we are handling doesn't have much in common with rocket science. [arch-dev-public] Looking for maintainer for mkinitcpio/a-i-s

Hi, I'm finding myself lacking these days in both time and motivation to continue maintenance of both mkinitcpio and arch-install-scripts. Is anyone interested in taking these over? Both projects are fairly stable, but bugs do crop up as the rest of the OS evolves. dR

[arch-dev-public] Arch Conf

Fellow Archers! Some of us (in #archlinux-conf) are thinking of organizing an event for our community: A new Arch Conf! We would like to do a conference (earliest in the 2nd half of 2019), that concentrates on our internal community: The developers, trusted users and support staff. Most of us have never met in real life, which would in itself be quite nice to change. However, we also have many issues and challenges to tackle in Arch Linux. Doing a dedicated conference (in the scope of two days) again [1] seems to be a good starting point! As many of us live somewhere in central Europe, countries such as Germany have been taken into consideration. We looked at some free and paid locations in Berlin and Hamburg and Delft (The Netherlands), but nothing is decided yet. We are currently trying to figure out options for sponsorship, as we would also like to be able to (help) fly in developers from further away (without compromising). For this we would like to get more input from you. We were thinking of involvement for topics e.g. from the DevOps and security teams, but also more broad subjects, such as package repositories, bug tracker, wiki, etc. An Arch Conf will of course not only require involvement in the form of presentations and workshops, but volunteers to help prepare and handle a potential location and the event itself. Also, there should be video streaming (e.g. the VOC [2] offers free services for free software conferences) for those that can't be there. [arch-dev-public] Access to CNCF community cluster

Few months ago I asked on arch-dev whether we would like to ask for access to Cloud Native Computing Foundation cluster, which we could use to experiment with automated package builds (or anything else really). Following no response I actually did so anyway[1] and I have been invited to CNCF organization on packet.net, where we can spawn new dedicated machines for fun and profit. Obvious caveat is that we are guests and shouldn't abuse it; less obvious one is that packet.net does not support Arch out-of-the-box but it can be achieved via PXE and cloud-init (currently residing in AUR?). [arch-dev-public] HEADS UP: Qt 5.12 in [testing]

The usual reminder that, due to Qt's ABI versioning, any Qt application built against 5.12 will depend on it, so it will need to stay in testing until Qt itself moves.
