I think this broke right around the update to pacman 3 on gerolde, so this make some sense.

Hmm, updatesync might not have been tested as well as it should have. If possible, could you rewrite that with repo-add? The change should be minimal, and repo-add doesn't care what the filename is (in fact, it includes the filename in the DB itself under a %FILENAME% entry)
