Speaking of the store, wasn't a previous attempt by shibumi to do this get blocked on some sort of store sheananigans? I think it'd be useful to pull that context up.

Hi Christian,
My attempts are more than 5 years old. AFAIK, the consensus was that "We", as Arch Linux, do not want to support a WSL image and do not support a "big and evil tech company" (not my words).
Thanks for sharing the context. Things have changed since then, and it seems like the consensus evolved to a point where "we", as Arch Linux, would be inclined "supporting" (more like "providing", see the scope for support defined in the thread) a WSL image now, at least according to the feedback I got from our staff inside and outside of this ML thread.
Another major concern was the trademark problem. Back then, people digged into the WSL terms of service for official images and there were 1-2 sentences in it that people didn't like.
Out of my head: The most concerning sentence was related to "advertisement". An official Arch Linux image allows Microsoft to use our trademark material (Logo, Slogan, etc) as they want to.
I can try to dig up the old mail thread if someone is interested.
Those are legit concerns that still stand today. Fortunately, since recent WSL versions, there are alternative methods to distribute WSL images outside from the Microsoft Store that are not subject to those trademark problems / concerns. Thanks for offering digging through old mail threads. Since distributing an image from the Microsoft Store is not something we are aiming to, I don't think we *need* it to move forward. However, if you're up for it anyway, feel free to share it to me. Despite not being concerned by those problems right now, it's always good to have some context and that could eventually be of use for a potential futur.
