That's the beauty of /run, it is rw from initramfs until shutdown ;-)

I tried adding "> /run/boot.log 2>&1" at the end of the udevd line in /lib/initcpio/init but it didn't work. It was still showing the output and the logfile was empty. I also tried Thomas suggestion in IRC: Snowman: can you try to comment out #SCRIPT="mdadm" in /lib/initcpio/install/mdadm That made the system unbootable. It was dropping me in the busybox recovery shell.
