Hi, Sorry for my late answer. I agree with dropping compiz from the official repositories now. I'll still maintain compiz 0.9.x in AUR, but I don't feel that it's supportable in the current form. I will contact with upstream about the problems, but it takes some time. I see some development in 0.9.x (at least bug fixes), additionally it's used as compositor in Ubuntu, but I don't have required knowledge to judge whether it can be used without Unity and we should support it or not.
