Done. While I was doing the rebuilds I thought that now would be a good time for the mplayer maintainer to look out for a stable recent snapshot rather than the rc2 release that is labeled outdated on the mplayer site.
The recommended way to install MPlayer is to compile from a current daily SVN snapshot. It's stable and recommended on the mplayer site.
Grrr. I don't know why more and more projects are doing this. So annoying...
