[arch-dev-public] New extra/unstable package: compat-wireless
I just built the compat-wireless package and I must say it's a cool thing. It's a snapshot of the current wireless-testing tree with extra patches added for compatibility to older kernels. The modules are in the /lib/modules/VERSION/updates directory, which is somehow magically preferred over the rest, and thus there is no conflict with our stock modules. I'd like to add this package to extra or unstable (preferably extra, as the drivers may indeed be more stable than the stock ones). Thomas - happy to have his wireless LED again.

What is the benefit of this driver package? They are just the latest development snapshot, right? I think it would be best to put it into AUR, so people who want to test latest drivers could easily build their own package. But if you really want to provide binary packages, you should put them into [unstable]. -- archlinux.de

Yes, features, better drivers, less bugs, I think people like stable wireless. And right now, the wireless development is going on so fast that the stock kernel is too far behind for many users.

It isn't in AUR yet, but I like it more as a binary package.
But if you really want to provide binary packages, you should put them into [unstable].
I could do that. But as mentioned before, I'd prefer unstable. Let's wait and see how many devs agree with you.

+1, unstable. You are willing to maintain it so might as well make it a binary package. -Dan
