[arch-dev-public] Social?
Ok ok.... let me preface this a tad. One of the things I think we've lost in arch, is a bit of the good ol' fun we used to have. Maybe it was just me having fun, but hey, I'm not the only one who got excited when skoal came back to the forums. So let's try and have some fun here, I'm sure we all have other things in common besides just Arch, right? This is the land of Web3.9 - there's no sense in me actually TELLING you guys what I like, because I can just paste links.... so here's some: music http://last.fm/user/phrakture movies http://www.netflix.com/Profile?prid=258042279 (sorry this one is most likely US only, as netflix probably doesn't ship overseas yet) random http://twitter.com/phrakture And you all got my previous text related (oops) spam, I'm sure. And there's much much more - for instance I own the entire set of Stargate SG1, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Farscape, and am closing in on the full set of Star Trek: TNG. So what about you all? A lot of us know very little about each other. So what do *YOU* do in your free time (besides the copious amounts of beer, heh)?

I drink wine. Lots of it. Though california has decided that oak notes are awesome, and I think they are retarded for it. I also go to a lot of live concerts. Screw album sales, it should be about ticket sales. // codemac ps: I'd write more, but I just drank an entire bottle of chardonnay. Oaky all over the place. -- . : [ + carpe diem totus tuus + ] : .

I do Arch in my free time :) Any other time it's daddy-hood - my reason for living. Alex & Peter, girl & boy, 4 & 2. I've no intention of boring anyone to death about it, but they are abso-fucking-lutely amazing.

Well, duh - this is Ireland. Mind you, we're all totally European here now, so that means not just Guinness - actually, not just beer either.. /me opens another bottle of imported high-quality German stuff :D
Good idea! Stuff about me, let's see..

You United-States-ians. As far as movies go I prefer the comedies; not a big horror fan, although I do like the action as well. I'll admit, I also enjoy the romantic comedies from time to time - I'm a sentimental guy. :P Hobbies? I play games (PS2 and Wii - anyone else got a Wii and wanna exchange friends codes?) and am getting pretty good at Guitar Hero. My wife and I play weekly DND games online, and go to movies fairly often - she's a real video buff. We watch quite a bit of anime too. I've just started fulltime work at Sandvine here in Waterloo, ON. I play ballhockey, foosball, and ping-pong with the guys at work, and hang out with 'em every so often. I'm trying to start jogging to lose some weight. 260lbs is a bit much for my tastes. I actually personally don't drink any alcohol, personal and religious reasons, but that makes me a great designated driver! :D Is that enough? :P -- Travis

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_football That is foosball - I've just started playing, but I'm slowly getting better. It's a pretty fun game; I just have to learn control of the ball. :P As for work, I do C++ embedded development for Sandvine's product line - we sell network devices to ISPs with the aim of increasing the quality of customer experience and decreasing the network costs for the ISP. Heh. If you live in the US, you probably recognize the name. They're the company Comcast pays to sniff traffic and send random packets to open torrents which resets anyone seeding a torrent - in essence, it is impossible for comcast users to seed torrents.

Well, rather, we're the company that makes the boxes Comcast purchaces. What Comcast does with the boxes once they've bought them is their business - unfortunately for them they've made some people unhappy with their policies. Just wanna clear that up. :P -- Travis

See, what makes netflix awesome is that they have all the crap you can't get at the corner movie store. I went on a LONG samurai kick, and got into a huge amount of old japanese films. I've gone through a lot of the classic European directors too, like Fritz Lang and Federico Fillini... Yeah I started that off a bit soft. See, this is my biggest hobby outside of the obvious. If you want serious movie recommendations ever, let me know. I can be good at it.

Heh. I've done two little blog posts about weight loss recently. The second one sucks and I want to combine it with the first. Soon I plan on going into a follow-up about exercise. See, I was, a while back, what jeff calls "hyperfocused" on weight loss. I did 210->165 (sorry guys, Imperial units) in about 3 or 4 months. And it wasn't starvation or anything. I'm not very good at staying at 165 though - that's what I get for having hobbies that mean I sit on my ass.
I actually personally don't drink any alcohol, personal and religious reasons, but that makes me a great designated driver! :D
That has always impressed the hell out of me. Not religious convictions, per se, but _convictions_. People who do what they want because THEY believe it, and don't back down. I find it amazing, so keep it up! On 10/1/07, Damir Perisa <damir.perisa@solnet.ch> wrote:

"mole" as far i know means sauce, or is this a special one i don't know? you can try mild cheddar... or another cheese that is not so prominent, if you want to taste the rest of the components more. such sirloin chili are not too difficult to get started but to ballance them out to be perfect is actually quite difficult. you can also try to use other meat. i don't know the mexican way and the way you did it, but what i do is: put some onion, ginger or galgan (depending on what you like) in cocos fat (do not use olive oil!) heat it up at >140°C (that's why - olive oil is not stable at this temperature) of heat (above this temperature the membranes of the muscle tissue in meat get destroyed and the sugars react with aminoacids to build this brown delicious crust - little bit of molecular cooking here *smile* - further reading: Maillard-reaction). mix the spices with flour and salt. put the meat in the warm oil and make it change colour. then add the spices-flour mix to it and mix till every meat gets it around. then i add 1-2dl of water and about the same ammount of cream followed by cooking the whole thing under low heat for some time (depending on the meat used). during this, you can add little sugar, adjust salt to your likeness. now you can make some vegetables aside and/or mix them together. - goes very well with light side dishes (noodles, rice, lentils, ...). ... the lightest and best meat for this i prefer chicken breast (cut in small pieces) or other such meats. mjam... i'm kind of having just another idea for a dish now... :) - D -- .·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ ° ° ° ° ° ° ><((((º> ° ° ° ° ° <º)))>< <º)))><

Hmm. Well I'm a pretty formidable/avid runner. I'm known to sporadically get up and go for a hefty 8 miler after not running for a long time, and I ran competetively in high school. B-b-b-b-b-but! last.fm _IS_ random internet streams. At least, that's how I use it. I just type in an artist or a tag and listen to what it gives me.

I think I'm the only aerospace engineer that doesnt drink. No religious reason, just don't really drink. I'm not particularly active, but don't mind football/soccer/whateveryoucallitinyourcountry and walking when I get the chance. Studying Aerospace Engineering/Business. Loving the aero, havn't done too much of the business side yet. Reflects my interests though, avidly follow spaceflight, and have a bit of interest in aviation too. I'll read just about anything. Been a long time fan of Clive Cussler and Dale Brown (not Dan Brown the Da Vinci Code author). Feel like picking up Hamlet again sometime too. Used to read any decent fantasy books I could get my hands on, and plenty of mystery novels. Recently I've been reading a mish mash of space/sci-fi related stuff, an astronaut memoirs, finished reading the Hitchhikers trilogy last week, Carl Sagan (Cosmos is a brilliant book, a must read, as is Contact). I subscribe to nasaspaceflight.com, and intend to get a subscription to Australian Aviation when I get the chance/money.

Good luck! I'm more a casual gamer and have enjoyed just about every genre looking back on it. RPG (Final Fantasy), RTS (Warcraft 2,3, AOE), FPS (Quake *, Half Life *, CS, ET, fortress), Simulation (Flight Sim X, YSFlight, Gran Turismo) and some random arcadey fun (Trackmania). Still enjoy them all.. cept the RPG's, i've never been one for a story twice. Currently messing with YSFlight and Trackmania (great, fun "just one more try!" type racing game). I'm a tinkerer and love to know how things work. I pull things to bits, put them back together again, and usually they work. *hides broken gadgets* I can be verbose when given the chance to... oops. Don't like | Rap/HipHop/Electronic either. interesting. i also do not like rap or hiphop too much... but i just discovered Orishas - really great music, try it out (especially, if you like samba, salsa, cha cha cha, discofox dancing - they have quite good beats) - maybe you like them | [...] Loving the aero, havn't | done too much of the business side yet. do you know how to fly? one of my dreams is to construct a low mass plane and go for a longer trip taking pictures of landscapes from the top. first i have to learn to fly and get a paper to show people i do know to. :) | I'm a tinkerer and love to know how things work. Ok ok.... let me preface this a tad.
One of the things I think we've lost in arch, is a bit of the good ol' fun we used to have. Maybe it was just me having fun, but hey, I'm not the only one who got excited when skoal came back to the forums.
I like fun!
So let's try and have some fun here, I'm sure we all have other things in common besides just Arch, right?
This is the land of Web3.9 - there's no sense in me actually TELLING you guys what I like, because I can just paste links.... so here's some:
http://www.last.fm/user/xentac I'm really good at just sending my music data and not doing any other community stuff.
movies http://www.netflix.com/Profile?prid=258042279 (sorry this one is most likely US only, as netflix probably doesn't ship overseas yet)
I use zip.ca... but I don't think I can share a profile for anyone to see. Most people would laugh at my movies anyway (my girlfriend likes to rent 90s tv series dvds).
random http://twitter.com/phrakture
And there's much much more - for instance I own the entire set of Stargate SG1, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Farscape, and am closing in on the full set of Star Trek: TNG.
Yay Firefly!
So what about you all? A lot of us know very little about each other.
I also ride a motorcycle (I like to take trips, but who has the time these days! (I put more than 40,000km on my motorcycle since I bought it in 2003)) and have a third degree black belt in shotokan karate. It was so hard getting dates on online dating sites when all I can tell people about myself is that I'm a geek, ride a motorcycle, and have done karate for 18 years... I also play go on littlegolem: http://www.littlegolem.net/jsp/info/player.jsp?plid=6813 I really need to make more time to play online on KGS...
So what do *YOU* do in your free time (besides the copious amounts of beer, heh)?
Beer is good. Very very good. Jason

Very very good. oh... by the way: i don't like beer :) I hope now with this confession i'm not trown out throught a closed window... ah... good we are door and arch people... no windows here ;) - D -- .·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ ° ° ° ° ° ° ><((((º> ° ° ° ° ° <º)))>< <º)))><
Hmm, I don't use social networking sites anymore nor do I post much about me on the web anymore, for reasons of constant annoyances. :p Anyway, since the info on the dev page doesn't say much about me I'm going to introduce myself here again. First of all, I have started to get into computers when I got my GameBoy for Christmas back in '90. Ever since I always dreamed of becoming a game developer once I finish school. Even though I've been programming from about '92 on my Amiga 600 it wasn't meant to be. Moved out of my parent's house in '99 and started with driver development for ISDN cards on RedHat which introduced me to the Linux world, which I couldn't find my way into w/o internet before. Nowadays, I hate to work full time and for companies that basically pay me a minor salary and sell the fruits of my time without me benefiting. That's why we founded the Telekommunisten, a worker owned company that primarily does voip services for the enduser. We also very much like to contribute to the free software and arts world. Non-profit projects are always very welcome and we support them with all the technical skills ad time we can offer for small change or free even. In my free time, I do play vintage video games. I still love my Sega Saturn for example which is the only reason I have a TV for. My favorite genre in games is probably RPG and survival horror, no I can't stand FPS or multi-player only games. ;) Musically I'm very much into electronic such as on http://deepmix.ru and http://klubradio.de, I kind of am involved with the both of them. You can please my ears with all kinds of other stuff too but if I need to chose, it's minimal techno. heh What else? I totally love to play with weird hardware as many of you may have noticed. Archlinux PPC was one of the bigger things I've done so far but I've also started on a MIPS and ARM port a few months ago which I don't push so much though. Every now and then I also play with my Saturn Devkit and try to drive some old apps written by me further. This is some weird shit hardware I tell you. :) OH, and since I'm a German: I LOVE BEER! :D And political, philosophical & controverse conversations: http://kth5.telekommunisten.net/misc/talkaoke Cheers, Alex

I own a DEC VT420 serial terminal - amber and black. That's the best I got. I really want to get my hands on an older Alpha and a copy of VMS, but that'll never happen - they're still like $4000 without the OS, and OpenVMS is sadly not really runnable.
