[arch-dev-public] What is man-db and why is it so crappy?
man-db runs a cronjob daily. Every time this cronjob runs, it causes very high system load for about 5 minutes (this is longer than updatedb). Does it really have to run daily? If so, is it really normal that it causes such high load? I would hope not. Can this please be fixed, it is very annoying.

You can remove the cronjob; its of no use imho. -- Pierre Schmitz Clemens-August-Straße 76 53115 Bonn Telefon 0228 9716608 Mobil 0160 95269831 Jabber pierre@jabber.archlinux.de WWW http://www.archlinux.de

According to the developer of man-db, the cronjob is only neccesary for whatis and apropos. http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/9130 I removed it, it just about kills my netbook...
