For me this error comes up every time I try to -S shadow again. Maybe this is pacman 4 related. I couldn't find a change in shadows install scriptlet. -Andy

It was a local configuration issue. Run sdiff -s /etc/group /etc/group.pacnew. On my system many groups were missing the "x" to require a password. No idea what change this introduced but after adding the "x" to all groups in /etc/group all errors reported by "grpck" are gone and I can properly pacman -S shadow now again. So the shadow update seems fine again. -Andy
