[arch-dev-public] core and base cleanup, again
So, this is the final list for the cleanup: Remove from base, but keep in core: - ca-certificates - lzo2 - openssl - wpa_supplicant - dash - ppp - rp-pppoe Remove from base and move to extra: - dialog - hwdetect Non-base packages to move to extra: - dosfstools - ntfsprogs - ntfs-3g Is this okay for everyone?

Sounds good to me. Allan

I am fine with this. I could update openssl and ca-certificates. Half-OT: I think there are still some missing deps for some packages in the base groups. Especially commands used in install script are often not covered. -- Pierre Schmitz Clemens-August-Straße 76 53115 Bonn Telefon 0228 9716608 Mobil 0160 95269831 Jabber pierre@jabber.archlinux.de WWW http://www.archlinux.de

Most of these commands will be installed during the first install of the base group. (Are some of these commands not even part of base? If so, it is even more problematic...) Otherwise, it is only for this first install that it can be problematic, because there will likely be many commands missing. And adding dependencies won't solve anything, because it introduces even more circular dependencies, and thus there is simply no order in which all packages can be correctly installed with their scriptlets. By the way, it is still a mystery to me how the Arch installer handles that. And every Arch system is supposed to do this initial install of the base group, and then to keep the base group installed. So then, these dependencies don't really matter either.

I say go for it.

Someone said he'd take over ntfs-3g, it is now in extra and up for grabs (ntfsprogs as well, but that is almost never updated).

I already took it when it was still in core. Somehow it was orphaned again? Anyways, I've just adopted both of the above packages. Ronald
