[arch-dev-public] Announce list?
Hey guys, I was approached by someone who was interested in keeping an eye on important things, but had to unsubscribe from this list due to high volume - too much that doesn't matter to a standard user. He brought up the idea of making a separate announce list for users to subscribe to for important happenings. None of us would NEED to be subscribed, as we could just send mails to BOTH lists when something is important. The specific items in question are the status report, and other things. What do you guys think? Aaron

Good idea. This list should include all front-page and forum news, too. -- archlinux.de

I don't mind. This would indeed be useful for users that prefer MLs over forums and feeds and want just essential news/announcement trafic. -- Roman Kyrylych (Роман Кирилич)

Done http://archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch-announce You don't really _NEED_ to subscribe. I'd appreciate it if we could do forum announcements and front page news there too, just so it gets out to all users. I will also be CC'ing the status reports there

idea: can we set the front-page-news form (on the dashboard) to send automatically an email to the two mailinglists once a new news item is submitted? instead of us forwarding the same message manually.
Hrm, that's possible, but there's a much better idea - rss2email - both of them have RSS feeds, yes?

Yeah, send me a patch and I'll incorporate it.

Another option would be to just post things like the status report on the arch site. Then it will show up in the rss feeds, and get pulled onto the 'planet'. Not sure about posting other items though..so I guess it depends on what you are targeting for that list.

This would work, but my thought was more along the lines of "this isn't really for the general public, but interested parties"

I don't mind having it, but we do have the newsletter and status reports. I don't know if you can get any more succinct than that. I guess what I'm saying is I don't mind having it if I don't have to do anything ;) Jason
