[arch-dev-public] dosfstools to base group?
Hi, https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/38076 looking at this old request, any objection to add this to base group? greetings tpowa -- Tobias Powalowski Archlinux Developer & Package Maintainer (tpowa) http://www.archlinux.org tpowa@archlinux.org

The rationale of the bug report is incorrect. "[...] the user will also need to install dosfstools, otherwise fsck.fat will fail on every boot, and he/she will be unable to interact with the EFI partition." Failure to find fsck.fat does not prevent mounting at all.

I suppose this was about Arch Linux ARM. dostoolsfs is not provided in their "tarball" and in many cases you need it if you want to install the bootloader. dosfstools is just 72Kb and provides support for another file system, so +1 for me. -- Andrea Arch Linux Developer

I don't think this needs to be in base, but should be on the install iso. There is also a bug report somewhere asking for xfsutils and jfsutils etc to be removed from base. Allan

Since Alarm was mentioned previously, they feel it is relevant to mention that dosfstools in base does not really matter to their project. Like Allan said, it can be added to the installer regardless of groups. -Kyle http://kmkeen.com

I recently found dosfstools was a dep of clonezilla (one of its scripts calls it), so that will pull it in to the iso next time, unless you want to specifically include it. -- Jonathan Steel
