[arch-dev-public] 2008.08 ISO Release
With the new kernel in testing, it's time to start gearing up for a release that will likely include the .1 or .2 kernel from this series. Were there any big issues besides base package selection that anyone noticed, or anything you wanted included in this release? Thanks -S

pacman 3.2 should be out sometime this week hopefully if I can sit down and get my stuff together. I have to do most of the release-y stuff on my own though unfortunately, such as updating the NEWS file and other fun things. With that said, 3.2.1 is a sure bet 2 weeks or so after 3.2.0, so is that worth waiting for? That may jibe well with a .1 or .2 kernel release. -Dan

I think Roman had some timezone-y things he wanted to look at. Also, we should probably get out new filesystem and initscript packages, so the ISOs don't say "Core Dump" anymore 8)

Yep, I have some fixes accumulated and am still testing time stuff to make sure I didn't miss anything. -- Roman Kyrylych (Роман Кирилич)

Just a reminder: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10753 Shouldn't be too hard to do: Put a kernel, initramfs and squashfs for each architecture on it, adjust the paths in the initramfs accordingly. Put package directories for both architectures on it, and put one i686 and one x86_64 entry in the bootloader. Adding sizes of i686 and x86_64 core CDs, I get about 600MB, so this should work. It's probably not too popular for download, but we want to give these away on FrOSCon. I already have Thayer making a variation of our CD label a small "FrOSCon 2008" logo on it, so it would be cool if the ISO would be there as well.

Most of the bugs reports/feature requests conserning the ISOs are http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10529 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10752 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10425 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10075 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10831 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10786 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10754 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10753 http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10632 Important or not, you might wanna take a look at some of them again Greg
I have no idea how easy it is to implement, but it would be nice if the iso was able to boot from cd and usb. This way there would be no need in providing separate img files just for booting from usb. -- Pierre Schmitz Clemens-August-Straße 76 53115 Bonn Telefon 0228 9716608 Mobil 0160 95269831 Jabber pierre@jabber.archlinux.de WWW http://www.archlinux.de

I think it is not possible.

It should be. At least grml can be booted via cd or usb. See http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=usb -- Pierre Schmitz Clemens-August-Straße 76 53115 Bonn Telefon 0228 9716608 Mobil 0160 95269831 Jabber pierre@jabber.archlinux.de WWW http://www.archlinux.de

Yeah, that looks easy...did you see the 10 step process? It is either that or borrow their grml2usb script, but it seems just as easy for people to use the IMG otherwise we go right back to what we had before, which was this exact same pain in the ass, multiple step process. -Dan

I'll try and get netcfg 2.1 done for it.

One other thing that'd be worth fixing is the pacman cache location. I don't know if this was a bug report or not, but currently pacman caches packages to the ramfs system, and not the host system.

Hm, I think it was OK in my case, though it asked me about the cache two times. -- Roman Kyrylych (Роман Кирилич)
