[arch-general] speakers don't turn off when headphones inserted

Hello, I just obtained a Fujitsu P7120 notebook (a very nice model, by the way). Overall, I am getting this working with Arch just fine (although I would definitely appreciate pointers from anyone else who has installed Arch, especially as I have been using a desktop until now and haven't had the need to configure notebook-type features). One problem I am having that I don't know how to fix is that when I plug in headphones, the speakers don't turn off. Alsamixer shows that the headphones and speakers have separate controls, something I have never seen in a notebook before. While cool, I would really love to have this automatically toggle as expected. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks, Scott

[arch-general] kernel vga setting problems

Why is it that after the last few upgrades with pacman I can't use any 'vga=nnn' setting anymore in my grub menu.lst? I used to use 'vga=792' 'vga=795', if memory serves me here. I keep ending up with a message at boot time that tells me the video mode selected is no recognized.

Hi, All! Today I remove usb->ps/2 connector from my mouse because new MB has no ps/2 and I got the problem $ zcat /proc/config.gz | egrep "USB_MOUSE|USB_KBD" # CONFIG_USB_KBD is not set # CONFIG_USB_MOUSE is not set recompillng kernel with CONFIG_USB_KBD=m CONFIG_USB_MOUSE=m and modprobe usbmouse resovle it. Should I file a bug or I miss something and there is a more proper way to set this up?

Hello arch users! I am running Arch64: [mickraus@gandalf lib]\$ uname -m x86_64 Looking into /usr/include/asm/unistd.h, it uses unistd_64.h on AMD64. According to this file the _exit syscall has number 60. But on my machine I have to use syscall 1 instead, as listed in unistd_32.h. Here is an example code for nasm (the version in extra repo is far deprecated by the way, had to compile a newer version by myself): ; tiny.asm BITS 64 GLOBAL _start SECTION .text _start: mov eax,1 mov ebx,42 int 0x80 This works. But changing the 1 to 60 breaks. Build procedure: [mickraus@gandalf elf]\$ nasm -f elf64 tiny.asm [mickraus@gandalf elf]\$ gcc -s -Wall -nostdlib tiny.o [mickraus@gandalf elf]\$ ./a.out; echo $? 42 What is my error here? I can't figure out how to mount my 2nd SATA drive...my primary disk is mounted by uuid in my current fstab but disk 2 doesn't seem like it's being found correctly. Can anyone help out...how do I figure out the uuid of my 2nd drive ? [arch-general] Firefox version keeps crashing

So like a dumbass I asked for Firefox3 and now I gotta a POS that keeps crashing. I upgraded firefox to: local/firefox 3.0-1 Standalone web browser from mozilla.org Meebo kills it along with running multiple tabs and a java download so I downloaded 3.0 stable as of today and it's running fine. Maybe the package maintainer can update it to the stable version of 3.0...perty please..

[arch-general] Problems with mounting linux partition with gid

I have no problems mounting via fstab my vfat partitions with an option like 'gid=100'. However, I can't seem to get that to work with a Linux data partition. That partition is formatted ext3. I also tried 'grpid=100', to no avail. Dmsg gives me an 'Unrecognized mount option' error with these. How do I create a Linux data partition that's fully accessible to me, as user, after boot?
