[arch-general] Arch-Sheriff - A script to match NetBSD vulnerability database against Arch Linux packages

Hi everyone, Some time ago Paulo Matias [1] (member of Arch Linux Brazil) started a very nice project to help improve Arch's security. Paulo created a python script to automatically test Arch's packages against the NetBSD vulnerabilities database. The script can run automatically and generates a text file with the details of all vulnerabilities found. This project is now called Arch-Sheriff (the source is available here [3]) and me and Kessia Pinheiro [2] began to help Paulo in the development. Arch-Sheriff now generates a html page with all vulnerabilities details and a link to them. The page can be found here: http://dev.archlinux.org/~hugo/sheriff/ The idea now is to create a way to notify a package maintainer about the vulnerability and add a way to mark it as fixed in Arch. We also want to create a login so the maintainers can mark all the vulnerabilities that they fixed and a rss feed. Arch-Sheriff is still experimental and there are some things that needs to be fixed. But i think that you guys can see what we pretend and where we are going. :) And, please, tell me what you think about this. Any suggestion is welcome. [arch-general] VirtualBox-ose 2.0.2 broken

Hi! I (and some people too) have been experiencing problems with virtualbox-ose since it was upgraded to version 2.0.2. The problems are described here: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11528?project=5 and here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55406&p=1 There is a workaround for this problem (I have not tried it), but does anybody know when will this be solved in the repos? [arch-general] Is qt 4.4.2-1 broken?

Hi, all After upgrading to qt 4.4.2-1, I found that some qt4 program became broken, such as VirtualBox, and Qterm. All of these programs get a error like this: process 4272: The last reference on a connection was dropped without closing the connection. This is a bug in an application. See dbus_connection_unref() documentation for details. Most likely, the application was supposed to call dbus_connection_close(), since this is a private connection. D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace Aborted Is it really a bug of application, or just a bug of qt, or just a bug for this package?

Hello, after the latest system update arch changes tetex with texlive. now i have the problem to use some programs which needs tetex as dependency like muttprint or dblatex. Is there a opportunity to run this programs with texlive because tetex isnt more in the repository. thanks toni

[arch-general] Wireless userspace tools

The new tool to interface with mac80211 based wireless drivers is 'iw' [1]. It was started because WEXT (Wireless Extionsions) will be deprecated [2] and 'iw' will be the single tool to configure/manage wireless devices in linux. Currently, I see a PKGBUILD in AUR that is outdated and pointing to the wrong source as well. Though it is currently under heavy development [3] and doesn't implement all the commands that iwconfig supports, iw is where future development will be focused on. I think iw should be part of the core wireless tools in arch. Also, the new regulatory framework for wireless devices is CRDA, initial patches have already been merged into wireless-testing and the only way to choose a regulatory domain from userspace is using 'iw'. Which reminds me, CRDA has to be packaged too. Briefly, CRDA is a userspace database of regulatory domains and is invoked by the kernel as and when needed using udev. Development of CRDA happens on wireless.kernel.org. [4] Just wanted to update the arch developers with all the new wireless stuff that's happening. netcfg v2.1 is mostly a bug fix release, however there are some important changes and new features. - Remove driver specific hacks/quirks. Hi ML, I made a tool for manage your personal archlinux repository: repoman! With repoman you can add, update or remove packages from your personal repo with a simply command line tool. Its gets the repository.db.tar.gz file from your repository; then its gets the tarball of the packages from AUR; build the packages and update the repository database (upload files also!!)
