[arch-general] dynex USB microphone extremely quiet

The topic says it all. I've got a new microphone, and whereas it works, it's rather quiet when I try to record it wtih audacity. Most people on skype complain that my voice is rather quiet as well, and I have to basically put the mic in my mouth for them to hear to hear me properly. Nothing's showed up on dmesg since I've plugged it in, strangely, but it shows up as a selection in audacity and skype (AK5370 :USB Audio (hw:1,0)). I've got mic boost, capture volume, capture 1, and digital turned all the way up, and those seem to be the only relevant options in alsamixer. [arch-general] kernel26-2.6.32.6-1 updates breaks Compiz?

Guys, After updates today on my x86_64 box from testing, including kernel26-2.6.32.6-1, Compiz is broken. It attempts to start, but then all windows are left without any decorations and keyboard input is disabled on kde4. The first time I tried, the plasma panel died leaving me with no way to get kwin back other than finding a black spot on the desktop and logging out. Next attempt, plasma panel stayed with me and changing back and forth from kwin to compiz and back is easily done with fusion-icon. (I put a shortcut on my desktop to 'kwin --replace &' just in case) Dunno what is happening here. Hello, During the recent libpng/libjpeg rebuilds, one thing that I noticed is that (big) Todo lists are really slow to load. Turns out that the current code is doing tons of simple queries (4 per package) which, although are quick to execute on the database server, take a considerable ammount of time to make. Thankfully, Django provides a mechanism to fetch all needed data in one go, which proved to be much faster during my testing. :) (If I should be sending these to a developer instead of this mailing list, please let me know.)

Just some words from my point of view: Like some of you guys - most of you I guess.. - I don't really like Jörg's way to articulate. He has his arguments, which are really good ones, but it always becomes a discussion like this. I saw this in the german Ubuntu forums, before I switched to Archlinux. But he really makes me feel like he loves his software and wants to maintain it as active as possible, so it always stays free of known bugs and is as well written as he is able to. I'm no real coder, so I cannot confirm that, but I trust him in this point. Maybe we deal here with a guy, who isn't really good in expressing himself in writing. I have this problem as well, I'm a much better talker than writer, when I write stuff, people often misunderstand me. Maybe it's the same with Jörg (although his english is VERY good!). But is this really an argument wether to use someone's software or not? I mean, for example, many people think RMS is a real idiot, but still they use his utils, because they are good software. There could be thousands of other examples. Are the devs of Firefox nice guys? Who gives a shit about that? Nobody, right, because nobody needs to talk to them about such issues Jörg always has to discuss about. What I want to say is, don't focus on Jörg's writing style or the way he articulates, focus on the software and the license issues. And Jörg, PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay on topic, the people here want to be sure if it's legal to use your software, so provide every information you are able to provide and don't always just write stuff like "I have a personal email of ..." (too lazy right now to find your exact quote, this thread is very long already ;-) ) You want Arch to use cdrtools in its official repos? So do what has to be done. If Allan, a VERY important Arch Dev, wants something specific, you should provide everything you can. It doesn't help you at all to play a little crybaby with this whole "They stole my software" (again, no real quote) etc. I'd love to see cdrtools in Arch, simply because it's really superior to cdrkit. If it's illegal to provide it in the repos, we still have the AUR, but the repos are official, the AUR is not, so if it's possible, having it in the repos would be preferable. Hope to see this discussion come to a good end for both sides ... Yes I'm a dreamer ;-) Greetz Army

I cannot find the "cf" variant in the ca layout (canadian french) in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/xorg.lst. What happened with it? I am trying to use a USB keyboard on my laptop, however it gets set as US instead of ca-cf. I check the file 10-keymap.fdi in /etc/hal/fdi/policy, but when I put ca as layout and cf as variant, my keyboard does not respond when I plug it in. Any other layout (that exists) works. Did Xorg remove the ca-cf layout? Sébastien Leblanc

Hi All, I am using KDE 4.3 Desktop on Archlinux 64bit. I have query regarding Custom keyboard shortcuts. I have few extra hotkeys on my keyboard(Microsoft Basic wired Keyboard 500). They keys have already mapped and few of them work too. "Play" does play/pause in amarok. However few keys do not work. I want to map these these to do some actions. like I want the calc hotkey to launch a application speedcrunch. I think this has something to with Khotkeys configration, But I haven't been able to figure out how exactly to configure khotkeys due to lack of documentation. I have a little dell 10 with archlinux. Unfortunately the audio and 3d are not really working, I tried hard some time ago but with no luck, anyway other problems are more annoying. - time getting crazy Every time I reboot this little machine the date is set somehow randomly. Any idea of what could that be? Maybe the battery that should keep it up is not working (I think is an OS issue though)?? - screensaver I use xfce but I installed quite a lot of stuff from gnome, but I never asked for the stupid gnome-screensaver to start at every boot, and I don't find how to disable it. My daemons are only those: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond acpid sshd hal bluetooth alsa rsyncd cpufreqd wicd cups fam) --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- - network devices with random name I had some troubles with the wireless card but then it worked smoothly with the proprietary "broadcom-wl" driver, the only problems is that sometimes eth0 = lan, eth1 = wireless and sometimes is the opposite and I don't understand why. This also happens with normal reboots. - no packages to update This is quite strange, sometimes I do a "pacman -Suy" and I loop up to date, but if I change the first mirror just editing mirrorlist I'm not up to date anymore and it starts updating. What does that mean? Not all the mirrors are on sync? Could it be related somehow to my problem with the date (shouldn't be though)?
