[arch-general] Blacklisting of modules

Hi folks, After initscripts' update I noticed that the modules, being blacklisted in rc.conf, were loaded. I tinkered around a bit (extended rc.sysinit with calls to lsmod) and found out, that udev loads most of the modules (rtc-Modules are loaded before, modules for hdd-access come from the init-ramdisk, cpufreq-modules are not loaded) in rc.sysinit lines 78 to 84. As far as I'm able to understand the code (I used grep to look for occurences of MODULES) udev has no knowledge of the MODULES array, so all modules are loaded. Therefore blacklisting in rc.conf would be useless. Switching the MOD_AUTOLOAD flag changed nothing at all for me, so it seems to be useless as well. I then created appropriate foobar-blacklist.conf files in /etc/modprobe.d/ to blacklist the modules. This approach worked for most modules, but pcspkr, wmi, sg, snd_seq_oss and snd_pcm_oss are still being loaded. Try checking /var/log/cups/error_log it will tell you more about what does not work. If you won't find nothing relevant, try setting LogLevel in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to "debug" and printing the test page again. I can see that the printer is on http://eva:0/ so I suppose that the printer is connected remotly, so make sure there is no problem on the remote machine. I have MP610 connected via Samba Share (it's plugged into a Windows machine) and CUPS says "success" no matter what the result is. It shows status "fail" only when CUPS fails to convert the document or send it to the printer. [arch-general] svn / kwallet integration broken

Not sure if the cause is recent upgrades to svn, or the recent upgrade to the KDE 4.4 beta, but svn integration with kwallet as a password store doesn't seem to be working anymore. Anyone else seeing this and/or have any idea what's up? Thanks, DR

[arch-general] Archwiki - Installing with fake raid - really chopped up...

Guys, I don't know who does the wiki editing on the "Installing with Fake RAID" page, but a lot of the helpful information was deleted and it has been edited down to the point that it is confusing. I rebuilt my home server last night and moved my last suse server to Arch at home. I had written a fairly extensive howto in the Installing with Fake RAID wiki page after my first multiple fake raid set install last fall so I went back to use it as a reference of the install last night. I was surprised how terse the information was and how little of the original step by step instructions remained. It was actually confusing enough that I went back to the original for a reference. If it was confusing for me to use as a reference and I know how to do this having done at least a dozen, I can imagine how it would hit a first timer. Don't get me wrong, the core information is still there, but it doesn't logically flow through the install. It's like nothing connects the dots... We might want to take another look at making the page flow a little better and expand a sentence or two on each step from the point of Partitioning Your Drive -> choosing other, to Installing Grub. Another 3-4 sentences in that area would really help. I don't mind doing it, but I don't want to do it again just to have it erased again. So is there someone we can send the additions to so they can add it 'officially' rather then me adding it and having it erased again? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
