[arch-general] [boost/boost-libs] PKGBUILD update for 1.46.0 + many improvements

Hey, this is mainly targeted at the maintainers of boost/boost-libs, but others are free to check it out, I have reworked the PKGBUILD for boost/boost-libs and I have managed to update the beast to 1.46.0 I have a full file [1] and a diff [2] against the previous version (1.45.0). I have also built the PKGBUILD for both i686 and x86_64 in clean chroots and provided the results [3]. Notable changes include: * bump version to 1.46.0 * enable icu support in regex * fix FS#22370 - [boost] does not include MPI [4] * fix FS#22471 - [boost-libs] no libboost_thread.so [5] * minor PKGBUILD cleanups Disabling single thread building and just building the multithreaded libs cut the number of files in boost-libs by about a half :) I was also told by upstream there isn't a need for enabling single threaded support. The only boost bug open is FS#22178 - [boost/boost-libs] Support for Python 3 [6] and I tried enabling support, but got errors, so it will just have to wait. Upstream doubts they support the latest python3.2, which I was told in irc. [arch-general] syslog-ng makes a kernel WARNING in 2.6.38

I'm running a self compiled 2.6.38-rc6-00113-g4662db4 on my 64bit desktop, and I get a nasty warning in dmesg complaining about capabilities. [arch-general] aplay ignoring CONT

In case someone is using aplay: It seems that aplay is ignoring a CONT signal. After interrupting with Ctrl-Z or with kill -s STOP, I can't resume playing. I have to kill the process with Ctrl-C or with kill -9. A couple of days ago aplay worked fine. I have an up to date system as of 15m ago. I also checked that my sound setup is ok: xmms works fine. Can somebody confirm this problem? Note that aplay works normally unless it is suspended. Jorge Almeida

Hello, I have a fresh Arch Linux installation on a Lenovo T410 laptop which has the following graphics card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2) At first I tried the nouveau driver, following the description on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau. Using this driver, the X server "freezes" every couple of hours (sometimes once a day, sometimes five times a day): mouse pointer moves around the screen, even music keeps playing but mouse clicking has no effect and neither has keyboard typing. I tried suspending desktop effects in KDE, then I even uninstalled nouveau-dri but it keeps happening anyway. At the first sight fonts look different, much larger (and although I don't know why a driver change should result in bigger fonts, I can tweak this later) but for some reason KDE now tells me this: The audio playback device HDA Intel (CONEXANT Analog) does not work. Falling back to . Which results in no sound working at all. When I try running alsamixer, I get the following: cannot open mixer: No such file or directory When I try to switch to one of the virtual terminals (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F1), alsamixer runs fine, when I switch back to X, it fails again, so clearly nvidia messes with that somehow. I'm unable to find anything relevant in the log files but I probably just don't know what to look for. At this point I don't really care which driver to choose (although I'd probably prefer a solution based on nouveau) but please, does anyone have a suggestion what to try to have both stable X.org and working sound? Folks I downgraded my kernel to 2 versions prior, I think from r5 to r3 and now the problem SEEMS to be gone, as I did not do any other modification I assume this was the issue. Still i'm doing some more tests. Regards, Victor

[arch-general] Adding AUR packages to [community] packages' provides

Well, I'm addressing current blacklisting issues with the AUR [1]. I noticed that some of the packages in the official repos have AUR packages as provides, some of them (well, at least one of them, didn't search for more) were even added due to FRs [2]. Donnu if this applies to [core] and [extra] as well. Is that regular practice? Imho, we shouldn't do that. The AUR is something to be considered separately. If we start to care about provides/conflicts with AUR packages, we'll need to add all "-devel"/"-svn"/"-git"/"-beta" packages in the AUR to the official packages conflicts and provides as well. And we'll need to start searching for alternative repos to ensure there's no conflict with our official packages. Seriously, we should be consistent here. Guys, Albert Vaca has built kdemod3 updates with the Trinity 3.5.12 (stable) code base.
