Hey everyone! It's that time again for arch to get the latest ghc! GHC 7.6.1 comes with a bunch of new and exciting features: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/7.6.1/html/users_guide/release-7-6-1.html It took just over a month to do the full rebuild because of the amount of patching and coordination with upstream we had to do. I would like to thank everyone who worked on this rebuild! Cheers!

* The following new packages are available on the live system: ethtool, fsarchiver, gummiboot-efi, mc, partclone, partimage, refind-efi, rfkill, sudo, testdisk, wget, xl2tpd +1 fsarchiver! Can I suggest to add tmux on an upcoming release!?

You are perfectly right, merdoz is not running. I finally managed after one day to install win7. The needed vitrio driver was indeed virtio-win-1.1.16.vfd, and adding this line to virt-install did the trick: --disk path=~/isofiles/virtio-win-1.1.16.vfd,device=floppy And now a beautiful merdoz7 is finishing installing! All this for a win7 VM...pppfffff

Dear list, I am trying with no sucess to install w7 on a VM on my Archlinux box. I use virt-install,virtio,qemu, and i already managed to set up VM. This time, after #virt-install --connect qemu///system --name=merdoz --ram 4000 --cpu host --disk path=/dev/vg0/lv_merdoz,bus=virtio,sparse=false,format=raw --cdrom /var/lib/libvirt/images/isofiles/WindowsTiny.iso --description="merdoz -vm guest on host magnolia" --graphics vnc --os-type=windows --os-variant=win7 --video=vga --hvm --accelerate --nonetwork. The libvirtviewer opens, and windows starts to install. The issue is it can not find the disk (/dev/vg0/lv_merdoz) because drivers are not installed. I read I needed virtio-win-0.1-30.iso. I downloaded it, exctract the WIN7 folder with the drivers. Then I exctract my win7.iso, put the WIN7 folder inside, then $mkisofs -o win7.iso -J -r win7 and get a new iso file. Unfortunately, when using it with virt-install, the file is not recognized and windows can not boot: could not read (code 004). 1- Do I really need virtio.iso to get the drivers? If not, why w7 doesn't recognize my LV ? 2- how to add these drivers to my setup? Thank you for help.

[arch-general] Epson USB scanner / new problem

I have a new problem with a usb scanner - testing repo - fully updated + kde + initscripts (not yet converted to systemd). This was working fine when last tried 3-4 weeks ago The scanner is not being initialized correctly somehow, daemon log shows this upon plugging scanner into USB port: Oct 8 12:05:10 wise kernel: [ 2319.943018] usb 1-1: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by usbfs while 'iscan' sets config #1 Oct 8 12:05:14 wise kernel: [ 2324.094930] usb 1-1: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by usbfs while 'iscan' sets config #1 It is epson v300 - and I'm using the iscan tools from AUR. Any suggestions? thanks.

[arch-general] grub lost after boot into windows - seen before

Guys, I have a simple arch install on an older dell box with a single non-raid drive that still boots with grub. The box is used as part of a media center. Partitioning is simple, sda1 win, sda5 /home, sda6 /, sda7 swap sda8 /boot. The box rarely is booted into XP. The hwclock is manually set via the bios interface when switching between Arch or XP, UTC/localtime. A couple of nights ago, I booted XP and left it running. Clamwin runs a nightly scan via its scheduler. The only thing that ran under XP that I know of was clamwin, which after using it for years and never seeing this problem before seems to eliminate it as a suspect. (there were no updates applied, etc...) The box was left running XP for a couple of days. Upon reboot, the box would repeatedly reboot to the bios screen. Booting the Arch install disk, chrooting, and reinstalling grub fixed the problem. What could have caused grub to be wiped out? Has anyone experienced a grub overwrite with XP lately that they have identified a reason for? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Akonadi file content search

Hi girls and boys This may seem like a daft question, and I did research this at length on Google, but is there any frontend that one can use to search file file contents? I understand that Akonadi contains meta data and that nepomuk feeds it and that everything ends up in (my case) a MySQL database (tables). Apart from the krunner interface, is there a front end that allows you to specify more than one criteria on a search? Or possibly is there a backend that can do advanced searching? PS: Yes one can query MySQL, and yes, there is akonadiconsole but that does not seem to have an item search for files. Thanks Andy

[arch-general] a systemd-sleep hook for tuxonice-userui

I'm maintaing the tuxonice-userui package [1] in AUR that displays a really nice splash when hibernating with TuxonIce. Since I've moved to systemd even for hibernating when the powerbutton is pressed, by setting HandlePowerKey=hibernate in /etc/systemd/logind.conf now the hibernate-script is no longer called (previously it was called from apcid). Turns out it works quite well except for the splash, so I've created this systemd-sleep hook [2] that I intend to add to the tuxonice-userui package. The hook should just switch to VT 63 on hibernate and switch back on resume. I need to do this because otherwise the X server could start showing visual glitches, and also alt-left/right arrows started switching the VTs.
