When I tried today to upgrade the system with: pacman -Suyy I got conflicts on net-snmp package. I installed everything except that and tried again with no results, is it safe to --force it? [arch-general] Exiting wpa_supplicant

Dear list, I try to write a small shellscript that (dis-)connects me with / from the WLAN of my university. I use wpa_supplicant in combination with the -B switch to establish the connection. After a pause of 10 seconds I pull an IP address by calling dhcpcd. My question (in context of the wlan-disconnect-script): how can I exit wpa_supplicant if it runs in the background ? Up to now it's done by "sudo killall wpa_supplicant" but I guess it's not the best way. Kind regards, Nelson.

Hello everybody, a thread has been started on lkml discussing a serious ext4 data corruption bug in latest stable kernels. [0] Looks like the root cause is not really clear so far. Reverting the commit in question should fix the problem though. [arch-general] autofs issue after location change

I had used one of my autofs mounts last night on my laptop. This morning I put it to sleep and moved to a different location where that nfs server is not available. I am fully updated to testing repo (as of last night anyway :-) ). (i) pacman hung (tho I understand from https://projects.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?id=e183522e3168c4a31103b3… that this may be fixed .. tho that was quite quite some time back so maybe something else is happening. (ii) Alerted by the hang - I tried to restart autofs via systemctl restart autofs Perhaps I didn't wait long enough - but this did not complete. (iii) So I rebooted pc. The shutdown hung after systemd reported [ok] for shutting off remote file systems. Again I only waited a few minutes - perhaps it would have timed out after sufficiently long - but how long? (iii) was especially surpising to me - I thought systemd would kill the daemon sooner. Can anyone share What is the right way of dealing with this 'dead autofs mount' issue? Thanks gene/

Leafnode-2 <http://www.dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/~ma/leafnode/beta/> is a local caching proxy nntp server. It isn't among Arch's packages, but I have been using it for some years on another distro (Mandrake/Mandriva). Systemd launches xinetd on start-up: $ cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/xinetd.service [Unit] Description=A secure replacement for inetd After=network.target [Service] ExecStart=/usr/sbin/xinetd -dontfork ExecReload=/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target $ And xinetd has this file for Leafnode: $ cat /etc/xinetd.d/nntp service Leafnode { flags = NAMEINARGS NOLIBWRAP per_source = 3 port = 119 socket_type = stream protocol = tcp user = news server = /usr/sbin/tcpd server_args = /usr/local/sbin/leafnode type = UNLISTED wait = no instances = 7 only_from = 127.0.0.1 } (actually generated using webmin, but in accord with the instructions in the README and INSTALL files in the Leafnode tarball). But this doesn't allow any user to access Leafnode; I suspect this is because /usr/sbin/tcpd doesn't exist (being a part of tcp-wrappers which Arch no longer has). (I can run the Leafnode components fetchnews and texpire as root; but attempts to connect to the local server result in "connection refused"). There are no daemons launched from /etc/rc.conf. I have installed ufw as a substitute for tcp-wrappers and created this file: $ cat /etc/ufw/applications.d/ufw-newsserver [Leafnode] title=Leafnode description=NNTP caching proxy server ports=119/tcp $ and have these rules in force, at least one of which should allow local access to leafnode, I think: # ufw status Status: active To Action From -- ------ ---- Anywhere ALLOW 127.0.0.1 newsserver ALLOW 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 119/tcp ALLOW 127.0.0.1 Leafnode ALLOW 127.0.0.1 Rather than install tcp-wrappers on my Arch system, I'd like to use whatever the proper "server" is nowadays instead of /usr/sbin/tcpd - but what is it? Or is there something other than xinetd that works as a 'super server' with systemd? Hey All, I just switched to systemd. I work on an Arch Linux Virtualbox VM which runs on Mac OS X. I assigned 3 NIC's to that VM and 2 of them have ethernet-dhcp profiles defined and set in /etc/conf.d/netcfg to be started at boot. $ cat /etc/conf.d/netcfg NETWORKS=(public local) However on boot, I see messages like the following: Oct 23 15:18:52 starbucks netcfg-daemon[168]: :: public up Interface eth0 does not exist Oct 23 15:18:52 starbucks netcfg-daemon[168]: :: local up Interface eth1 does not exist Oct 23 15:18:52 starbucks netcfg-daemon[168]: [fail] Oct 23 15:18:52 starbucks systemd[1]: netcfg.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1 Oct 23 15:18:52 starbucks systemd[1]: Failed to start Netcfg multi-profile daemon. Tried multi-user services by enabling with the following commands resulted as the same: $ sudo systemctl enable netcfg@public $ sudo systemctl enable netcfg@local Found out some threads on the forum that suggests to copy service definitions and overwrite them but that didn't look like a solution to me. All tickets created at flyspray was about 1 wireless - 1 wired setups. Some of them are closed, marked as "Not a bug". Anyone having the same issue? Any suggestions? Currently I enabled netcfg.service. Sometimes all NICs are disabled, sometimes both are enabled. Mostly however only 1 NIC (the first one) is up. --- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

[arch-general] Modify installed package version

Hey guys is there a way to modify an installed package's version using pacman, instead of upgrading the package. That is, only change the version in the database, but don't actually upgrade a package. Alternatively can I rename the package directory inside /var/lib/pacman/local/ and %VERSION% string inside the desc file to achieve the same?

[arch-general] neo - german keyboard layout

hi list, i played around with neo2, an alternative kbd layout optimized for german. in my kde environment. the main concept of neo is using meta keys to shift between layers. for me, the meta4 key is not working on either side. i found some suggestions to solve this problem, but nothing worked so far. anybody out there knowing, how to fix this? and how can i enable neo in initramfs, for input of my encryption pw? thanks georg
