[arch-general] ghc 7.4.1 moved to extra

I have finally moved the new ghc to arch repos. With this cleanup comes a bit of change. The decision has been made that ghc will be updated to the latest stable version and haskell-platform will be moved to the aur. This means you should remove the haskell-platform related packages before updating. I will also keep only essential packages and their dependencies related to haskell in [extra]. For now this means cabal-install and ghc + their depends. This is the reason why we packaged haskell-haddock even though the ghc package already provides the haddock binary. *The post-install messages related to haskell packages can get pretty long. There is a proposed solution with a patch, but I need to figure out if there is any way we can work it out with upstream first. *There is no cabal-install or darcs version that is marked as stable and currently builds with ghc 7.4.1 These packages are statically linked so it shouldn't matter for now. I will be keeping an eye on these packages and waiting for upstream to provide new stable versions that builds against the latest ghc. Cheers!

What does arch linux use for burning cd's and dvd's? It's not cdrecord or wodim I checked for those two and found nothing, unless I need to add a repository to my searching. Also what does arch linux use for a spreadsheet for command line users? So far as I can tell, it works fine and arch has no problem with amd K8 machines either. I have Tim Brennan's talking arch installed on a 1.5TB sata disk and that was something debian couldn't do. [arch-general] Gringotts, alternatives?

Gringotts has stopped working with a not completely uncommon error: ***MEMORY-ERROR***: [10817]: GSlice: failed to allocate 1008 bytes (alignment: 1024): Cannot allocate memory Given the time since the last release I'd be surprised if it's fixed any time soon. Also, I've never been extremely impressed with it so maybe this is a good time to look for an alternative. This means I now have two problems to solve, and any help on either would be appreciated: 1. How do I get the data out of the gringotts vault? Is there any other application that can read it and help me pull everything out? (I suppose I can always move the vault over to a Ubuntu box and extract it there, but I'd rather avoid that if possible ;-) 2. What alternatives to gringotts exist? I don't think this is significant enough to warrant a bug. Since the linux-3.2.6-1 kernel updates ( I don't remeber which version of mkinitcpio, sorry), I've been getting the following warning when mkinitcpio runs during the kernel install: cp: warning: source file `/lib/modules/3.2.9-1-ARCH/kernel/fs/ext4/ext4.ko.gz' specified more than once I originally thought it was due to my inclusion of the mkinitcpio-numlock hook from the AUR, but I have a fresh install on a new machine, without the numlock hook and get the same warning. I searched the bug tracker and found no reference to this. /usr is not mounted on a separte partition. my box HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems usb usbinput fsck numlock" new box HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems usb usbinput fsck" Since it's a warning not an error and doesn't appear to have any deliterious effects, it's not a problem. Guys, Is it possible to look outside of the chroot while building in an archroot from the PKGBUILD to check for a local copy of a git tree? Logically, what I want to do from inside the archroot is: (1) check for an existing git source in the ${srcdir} (if so, then use it) (if not, then...) (2) check for a local copy of the git tree outside chroot (if found) (3) change to that directory and update and copy to ${srcdir} (else) (4) clone new copy into ${srcdir} Is this even possible? I have made an attempt at implementing this, but I think I'm prevented from looking outside the chroot. Everything works except for (2) above. I have installed several VCS packages from AUR which the PKGBUILD has not been updated for a while, is there a way to force update them all together? By the way, I use yaourt, but I don't know if there is a option can do that. Thanks
