Hi, I've noticed recently that a lot of upgrades have been making the total installed size go down. Has something changed in the packaging, like compressed binaries or a new version of GCC or something? I'm just curious. Brendan

[arch-general] Google Voice through iptables?

Hi, I just tried to use google voice to contact someone, after 2 'dialing sounds', I couldn't hear anything. After I stopped iptables, I can make phone calls via google voice successfully. I searched the web, and found 2 possible solutions: [1] and [2]. Then I added iptables rules according to their instructions, but none of them worked. Also, I noticed that my browser just kept trying to receive/send data to relay.google.com (Waiting for relay.google.com) How to configure iptables so I can use google voice with iptables enabled? [arch-general] Flash Plugin Crash on gimp-lqr tutorial page

Guys, Attempting to view the gimp liquide rescale tutorial page resulted in a flash-plugin crash in firefox. The site is: http://liquidrescale.wikidot.com/en:tutorial It looked as if it was going to play initially, but then I got the frowning lego. Can anyone confirm and let me know if this is a bug in firefox or flash. It looks like flash, but I can't rule out a problem in ff's implementation of the plugin. If it is a bug, can anyone tell if it is in the build or upstream? Thanks. It may also just be the page. I'm not good at debugging this type issue. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Why chsh behaviour differs from specified in manpage?

Hi, Today I messed around with zsh and login shells and found a strange thing - when I try to change my own login shell - chsh forbids me to do this: $ chsh -s /bin/bash You may not change the shell for 'kravitz'. $ whoami kravitz So it states, that I can't change login shell for current user, but lets look at manpage: DESCRIPTION The chsh command changes the user login shell. This determines the name of the users initial login command. A normal user may only change the login shell for her own account; the superuser may change the login shell for any account. So this it's either a bug in chsh or in its documentation. Does anyone has the same problem? By the way, is it a typo in manpage: "for her own account"? Who is "her"? if we talk about user, there should be "his". But maybe I'm wrong, since english is definitely not my native language. -- Dmitry S. Kravtsov

Hello guys, Please give me advice - how can i debug problem with screen locking in KDE? I don't find any similar problems in arch forums/mailing lists. This problem appeared after update. [arch-general] howto only rebuild changes from existing source with makechrootpkg?

Guys, Is it possible to change and rebuild only a part of a large package with makechrootpkg instead of having to build the entire package every time there is a small change? Specifically, I'm working on the kio_sftp part of kdebase. Once I build the entire kdebase package and it is in the chroot, I would like to be able to only rebuild the changes made to the kio_sftp code instead of having to rebuild the entire kdebase package. Something like (makepkg --noextract) so that only the new/changed code is rebuilt from the existing code in ${srcdir}/${pkgname}. It's just the ability to cut down the build time I'm looking for. Is this doable with makechrootpkg? If so, what is the best way? Subpackage? Pass --noextract somehow? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Hello, I found nice workaround, when i try to debug problem with krunner, kscreensaver, etc.. Next steps solve this problem without downgrading to previous version of Qt: 1. Sync abs tree from root 2. Go to /var/abs/extra/kdebase-workspace 3. Edit PKGBUILD and change: -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release to -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug 4. Same for /var/abs/extra/kdelibs 5. [arch-general] battery charges only 49%

Hello, I have a notebook lenovo G470 recently realized that the battery only charges up to 49% searched the wiki and found that there is a software called ts_mapi, he is not installed, but my computer is behaving as if estivese with the software installed. There was some-changing or updating the kernel that could have enabled this feature of the battery? Could someone help me?
