[arch-general] Emacs is Broken!

I don't know what happened lately, but I notice that emacs totally locks up on me now. It was working find yesterday before I did a major pacman -Syu this morning. Even if I move my .emacs out of the way and start up emacs, I get the welcome screen but then no cursor key movement. The only way I can get emacs to close is to kill it from another console. Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing trouble with emacs 23.4?

[arch-general] long list of "declare -x" statements on shell login

Hi, For the past few days, I am noticing that whenever I log into a shell terminal, I get a long list of declare statements at the login. Can anybody tell me what they are exactly? declare -x DISPLAY=":0" declare -x G_BROKEN_FILENAMES="1" declare -x HOME="/root" declare -x LOGNAME="root" declare -x OLDPWD declare -x PATH="/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin" declare -x PWD="/root" declare -x SHELL="/bin/bash" declare -x SHLVL="1" declare -x TERM="xterm" declare -x USER="root" This happens with every user. Also, there was an error about no file or directory gpg-agent.info. What does that file do? What should I do to remove that error? I right now just created an empty file by that name and there is no error now, but I suspect I should do something more? Thanks in advance -- Jayesh Badwaik

Hello list, Anyone having trouble with pypy? I can't find anything on the mailing list or bug tracker. Running pypy for me gives: $ pypy 'import site' failed Python 2.7.2 (2346207d99463f299f09f3e151c9d5fa9158f71b, Feb 10 2012, 15:07:02) [PyPy 1.8.0 with GCC 4.6.2] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. debug: OperationError: debug: operror-type: AttributeError debug: operror-value: 'module' object has no attribute 'warn' I only use pypy when I am doing computationally intensive work so I'm not sure when this started happening. I have tried rolling back to pypy 1.7 and 1.6 with the same result. An strace is very busy and I can't see anything at first glance. I am running [testing]. Regards, Mike

[arch-general] Any way to revert chroot to gcc46?

Guys, Is there any way to revert my chroot for building back to gcc46 immediately prior to this last gcc47 update? Obvious reasons - bug fixes required due to new gcc47 C11 & C11++ extension implementation, etc..., but I would like to continue building until the bugs are fixed. Is there a reasonable way to do that absent having to set up and point the chroot pacman.conf at a hand-built repo with just the gcc46 files in it? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] libreoffice/cups print timeout - after fist few minutes can no longer print

Guys, I have noticed a problem in libreoffice for the past several months where nothing will print after the libre has been open for a couple of minutes. If you print right after you start libre office, everything prints just fine, but if you leave the document open for 5 minutes or so (could be as short as 2 minutes) nothing will print and you can no longer see your printers in File -> Printer Settings. If you shutdown Libre and restart it, you can print again for the first couple of minutes and then the same 'no print' problem occurs again. This has occurred in 3.4 and continues in 3.5. Has anyone else seen this behavior?? I feels like there is some type of timeout that occurs between cups and libre that causes this, but there is nothing in any of the logs in /var/log. This affects both LibreOffice and ApacheOpenOffice, so it looks to be a problem in the common codebase. I have reported the issue to Libre at freedesktop.org, but nothing has been done there. Also, all other apps, kde, etc.. continue to print just fine. Can anyone thing of additional tests that might be able to help diagnose what is happened? There have been some previous writeups, but no solutions: eg: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/libreoffice-3-4-2-… When the problem occurs - all lpstat information shows all the printers still ready and willing to print. The is consistent with the fact you can still print from everything accept Libre and Apache Office. Seen it? Thoughts? Fixes? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Regressions with X and dbus (maybe?)

Hello all, since the last update today, my X server does not start on startup, i have to start it manually. after that, a lot of things dont work, such as network (wicd), audio (alsa, no pulseaudio!). attempting to start dbus needs me to remove the pidfile first, then it starts without errors, but crashes again instantly. some hopefully useful information: linux 3.2, kde-4.8.2, fully updated system help pretty much appreciated. georg
