All, The first Arch Linux class has been postponed. The other presenter, Daniel Wallace, has recently been hired and will be inactive[0]. He will be unavailable for much of the next month as well. March 31st is Easter, and we understand that many people will be unable to attend. That being said, we sill still be having this class at a later date, so keep your weekends open if you are planning to attend. The time (16:00 UTC) will remain the same. [arch-general] MaraDNS and Zonetransfer

I want am using MaraDNS and I want to enable zonetransfer. When I try to enable zonetransfer service via systemd, I get failed status and this in my messages.log: Mar 27 18:01:53 localhost systemd[1]: Starting Zone AXFR service for MaraDNS server... Mar 27 18:01:53 localhost systemd[1]: Started Zone AXFR service for MaraDNS server. Mar 27 18:01:53 localhost systemd[1]: zoneserver.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=3/NOTIMPLEMENTED Mar 27 18:01:53 localhost systemd[1]: Unit zoneserver.service entered failed state I am able to start zonetransfer with "duende zonetransfer -f /etc/mararc". Also, I am able to start zonetranfer via systemd when I bring maradns down, then if I start maradns I'll get the same errors in my messages.log BTW: journalctl is disabled because it was resource hungry. So, all messages go @/var/log/messages.log Thank you.

[arch-general] Question about mariadb replacing mysql

With the move to mariadb I have the following situation: I am not explicitely running mysqld so checking the status with systemctl shows it is inactive. However I am running KDE as my desktop. After doing the suggested install after ensuring that mysqld is stopped: pacman -S mariadb libmariadbclient mariadb-clients and accepting the install of these packages with removal of mysql equivalents, I then find that there is a private instance of mysql running by the KDE desktop: ps -eaf | egrep mysql mike 660 657 0 Mar23 ? 00:00:42 /usr/bin/mysqld --defaults-file=/home/mike/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf --datadir=/home/mike/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ --socket=/home/mike/.local/share/akonadi/socket-home1/mysql.socket mike 9747 761 0 13:39 pts/3 00:00:00 egrep mysql So does any expert know whether a mysql_upgrade is necessary for KDE and if so how does one go about doing that upgrade? [arch-general] Upgrade finish in a "Kernel Panic - not syncing : no init found"

Hi, I reinstalled 2 weeks ago arch linux, because a pacman -Syu broke everything. Today, everything works fine and I decide to keep my PC up-to-date, so I run pacman -Syu and I get a message when trying to boot *** Kernel Panic - not syncing : No init found. *** Of course, because I saved the list of the packages before and after this upgrade, (with pacman -Qe) I tried to downgrade, but it doesn't work at all. I still have the same message error, I checked and changed the grub.cfg without no success : the rootfs is correct, the init is on /dev/sda2 (a link to /usr/lib/systemd/systemd) So I tried to append to vmlinuz line "init=3" "init=/sbin/init" "init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" ... Without any success even when downgrading the kernel version (from 3.8 to 3.7) I can of course reinstall everything but I prefer to avoid that, someone can help me please ??? I really don't understand what happened. Thanks in advance Dany

[arch-general] Broadcom B43 problems

I have seen some indications that my Broadcom B43 *ought* to work with the kernel's b43 driver, but I've never managed to get it working on my own. I'd love to be able to switch away from the broadcom-wl package is possible. Using a kernel from a few days ago, 3.7.9 and the b43-firmware package from AUR I only get as far as connecting to my router (at least that's what NetworkManager says), but then I can't actually connect to any site. If I then bring down the network and then bring it back up again the connection to the router will fail (NetworkManager keeps asking for the password). [arch-general] strange behaviour of pacman, what did I do?

Hi I was updating an archroot, created with mkarchroot to play with lxc. I thought following would work but it was doing something else altogether ------------------------ [root@bheem lxc]# pacman -Su -c /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ --root=$PWD/server1 Cache directory: /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ Packages to keep: All locally installed packages Do you want to remove all other packages from cache? [Y/n] ^C Interrupt signal received ------------------------ I think I lost a few packages during this because following command lead to a 30MB worth of download. ------------------------ [root@bheem lxc]# pacman -Su --cachedir=/var/cache/pacman/pkg/ --root=$PWD/server1 ------------------------ What did pacman do the first time? The man page does not have bare -c option and it wasn't -Sc where it started cleaning the packages(or was it?) And just to be sure.. I wanted to run pacman on the host again.. and eh? I lost my synced dbs? [arch-general] Forward all PPTP VPN packets to another proxy?

Hi, Currently I have a arch linux server running PPTP VPN (for iOS devices only), and I forward all PPTP VPN packets to local eth0: iptables -A POSTROUTING -s <ip_addr_for_pptp> -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE Now I got a external proxy, and I want all the traffic currently through the PPTP VPN then through that extenal proxy (it's a http proxy, and requires authentication). If my description is confusing, please consult this chart: iOS --> Server 1 (PPTP VPN) --> Server 2 (http proxy, authentication required) --> Web Server {1,2} both have dedicated external IP address. I have root permission for Server 1, and nothing for Server 2 (except for the http proxy account). I'm thinking about running a http server that handles all the authentication for Server 2 (such as dante?), then forward all packets to that server (running in Server 1). But I don't know how to write corresponding iptables rules. So how to write such rules? Regards.

[arch-general] Bonding networks with netcfg

So I’ve got access to two networks, a wireless one on wlan0 and a mobile broadband one (with a 3G modem) on ppp0, and both have a tendency to be rather unreliable. I decided to look up bonding the two, and while I can sometimes manage to enslave wlan0, ppp0 always fails. I’ve followed the information and guides from [1] and [2], as well as what Google could find (though most of the information there was seriously outdated). I did find a post on the BBS with exactly the same problem[3], and I tried what they had used, but it also failed. Is what I want to do even possible? [arch-general] Weird problem of ALPS v6 touchpad

Hi all, I'm using Archlinux on a Dell Inspiron 7420 laptop, which has an ALPS touchpad that doesn't have driver in kernel. Currently aur/psmouse-alps-driver provides support for it. But recently some weird problem happened. After I switch off touchpad using `synclient TouchpadOff=1`, it should be completely turned off. But when I wipe it with palm, the mouse pointer randomly moves and sometimes even clicks! [arch-general] make/ execvp error : argument list is too long

Dear List, I have an issue since 5-10 days when building android from source, as when I have been building it for months with no problem. At one point in the building process, make will stop with this error: make: execvp: /bin/bash: Argument list too long After some search, I found this error is thrown by execvp(), following the errors specified in man execve(2). The execvpe() function appears in glibc. My glibc is the one from core, 2.17-3, and has been reinstalled. Building AUR packages don't give any error. The android ROM I am building is very closed to the android open source, and build fine on another machine (Linux Mint). So I suspect the problem comes from my box. The following line from android envsetup output puzzles me: HOST_OS_EXTRA=Linux-3.8.4-1-ARCH-x86_64-with-glibc2.2.5 What is this glibc2.2.5 ?? Thank you for any help. Regards.
