[arch-general] [mkinitcpio] about explicit module inclusion and purpose of udev hook

For my current system, I need the following modules (and their dependencies) to boot (mount the real root): ahci, sd_mod, btrfs (which are drivers for the sata controller, disk, and the root filesystem respectively.) If I specify these three in the MODULES array of mkinitcpio.conf, the only hook I need is the base hook. However, if I make use of the block hook and filesystem hook instead of the MODULES array to include the modules I need, I can't boot successfully without the udev hook: Unable to find root device 'UUID=c47a3e43-fed6-4f8a-8e52-71bae7a9f893' So, what is the purpose of the udev hook? What so special is the MODULES array? I even tried to include all modules which are included by the block hook and filesystem hook (with autodetect) explicitly with the MODULES array, to see whether the extra modules were adding factors to cause the failure, yet it still boots fine without the udev hook.

Hi, earlier today an update asked me to replace mate-settings-daemon-pulseaudio with mate-settings-daemon. After taking a look at the old and new package I replaced it. From an hour ago until now the update asks to replace mate-settings-daemon with mate-settings-daemon-pulseaudio. If I reply with Y I get: error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: mate-control-center: requires mate-settings-daemon>=1.10 :: mate-session-manager: requires mate-settings-daemon>=1.10 If I reply with N I get: there is nothing to do Why does pacman ask me to replace it while there's nothing to do and two other packages need the installed version? [arch-general] Qt 5 apps disregard cursors settings

Hello, I set my system to the Bluecurve cursor scheme in KDE 4 System Settings, I also have /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme pointing to it. However, Qt 5 apps completely ignore all my efforts to make my system look consistently and instead use a custom theme — for example, here’s the “wait” cursor (it’s not even KDE-Classic, the watch is white instead of black). I'm having lots of resets on my backup USB3 drive for no reason. > A lot of resets with no reason. You need to enable debugging > for the storage driver. > A usbmon trace would be easier to read and just as good for debugging. So if you see Bruce Schneier asking random questions like "How encryption works" or "Please help me to install GPG" it will be OK for you and you won't google his name to discover who is that person ? Now who cares who is Bruce Schneier (the rest 10%), let's just help him with the encryption because he seems to be casual computer user.

[arch-general] lxde setting problems

1. Pressing the printscreen button opens an openbox dialog that says it couldn't execute gnome-screenshot. I don't use gnome and I don't want printscreen to do anything. 2. I use lxde and I like my task bar at the top of the screen. There is always a pixel above the open tasks so I can't just move the mouse to the top and select a task. I have to click on the task name (which is difficult for me). I tried setting the margin to 0 in the panel settings and setting the spacing to 0 in the taskbar settings. 3. Windows open (and can be moved) so the part of the window that can be dragged can be under the taskbar (I have autohide set to off).

[arch-general] Inkscape fails to open svg files

Hi all, An update between the 17th of May and the 1st of June seems to have broken Inkscape's ability to open existing svg files on my computer. Any svg I open (including stock files off the internet) cause Inkscape to crash with "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now". I even created a new, test svg consisting only of a few shapes and text, but I can't open it again after saving. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Thanks!

Hi. I hope someone can help me please. I bought a new keyboard, a noga NKB-710. The problem is that, according to xev, four of the keys have the same keycode... The keys Ctrl, Alt, Win*** and shift, have the same keycode, 50. Off course, it doesn't work correctly. and this way, It's imposible to me to configure it with xmodmap. I don't know what data I can share. I hope this to be sufficient: attached a lsusb -v output Thx, bye! :P
