I kind of feel like users who do the wrong thing should not be catered to. That being said, using a perl directory layout that causes non-rebuilt packages to simply go missing from the perl installation seems like an *excellent* tradeoff of harmless while providing useful functionality. It seems to work well for python, too. Hooks to warn people when they do the wrong thing seem ugly, but I can't really claim to be extremely bothered if it is as lightweight as a check for existing files/directories, I assume running whenever the perl package is updated... But providing wrapper scripts that hijack the perl binary every time you try to do anything that involves perl is a *terrible idea*, and regardless, if users don't pay attention to pacman output they deserve everything that happens to them. Paying attention to pacman output is non-optional in Arch, last I checked. -- Eli Schwartz

what's the rationale to enable the gnupg sockets in post_install of the package? https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk/install?h=packag… I don't disagree that the sockets maybe should be enabled (I have them enabled for me), it's just a strange way to enable them in post_install, and linking them in /etc/ Why doesn't the PKGBUILD make the symlinks in /usr/lib/systemd/user/sockets.target.wants/ ? dbus does that for ex. -- damjan

[arch-general] ReadyDLNA/MiniDLNA doesn't work behind wireless

Good afternoon, as said in the subject I am having some issues running MiniDLNA on my home server. The service fires up properly (the status web page is properly accessible), however the server is not visible when I scan for it in my DLNA-enanched applications, on all the platforms (my Android phone and tablet + my computer). In the past it was working when my home server was connected through Ethernet, but I had to make a really bad setup and I would prefer to keep it on wireless. All, There was a slight hitch in the system update tonight with the requirement of: Replace wxgtk with extra/wxgtk2? choosing 'Y' results in unmet dependencies for veracrypt, e.g. :: Replace wxgtk with extra/wxgtk2? [Y/n] resolving dependencies... looking for conflicting packages... error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: veracrypt: removing wxgtk breaks dependency 'wxgtk>=3.0' I have checked the archlinux.org page and there are no notes. Hi all! Current in pacman we have python-magic from http://darwinsys.com/file/ with an unknown custom license. We have other implementation with MIT license made by ahupp [1]. The second one is available in pypi and is more advanced that the first one. I have been checking the code of dependencies of python-magic and I can see that deepin-movie and diffoscope supports well ahupp version. Why not replace python-magic with diffoscope version, as can see in AUR [2] this version is used for much more packages. Greetings. Hello. I found that libevent <https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/x86_64/libevent/> is outdated from 2017-01-28. The new stable is available https://raw.githubusercontent.com/libevent/libevent/release-2.1.8-stable/Ch… Any reason this is not updated? I checked todo lists and bug-reports - found nothing.

[arch-general] Xorg configuration on a dual graphic card system

Hi there, I'm trying to setup my xorg configuration on my dual graphic card desktop system. The system has two cards, one iGPU Intel HD Graphics 530, another is a dGPU Nvidia GTX 1070 on PCIe. I plugged one monitor to the iGPU port and another to the dGPU port and let the motherboard boot from iGPU. Right now, the fbcon works well on the iGPU, and I installed Nvidia non-free driver, and would like to run X on dGPU. I used the nvidia-xconfig to generate a Xorg configuration, and after starting Xorg, I got display from the monitor connected to dGPU, but it seems that the 3D rendering on that screen is software-based, and `glxinfo | grep vendor` showed that libglvnd on that X environment is selecting mesa as the GL library to use. With mesa being called on a dGPU connected screen, apparently it could not find a correct device to do dri, and fell back to software rendering. Does anyone know the proper way of config X so that libglvnd could know which GL library to use correctly in this case? Thanks, K.H.

But I remember Wayland has nothing to do with X and draws the UI directly on the fb unless your app requires Xwayland... Did I get it right??? So you might wish to check out the KMS settings... I'm afraid... RW

[arch-general] Problem regarding Resolution on Nvidia

Hello, I am using nvidia proprietary driver on arch linux (GNOME with Wayland), My HDMI port broke so I connected my monitor using DVI ports (with VGA adapter since my monitor does not have any DVI output). Now my aspect ratio is fixed on 4:3. I can't make it to 16:9 nor can I use 1920*1080. Steps I've taken : 1. Following archwiki I tried to create a new rule for xrandr but it failed 2. I tried editing xorg.conf refresh rate and it added some weird resolution but still no 16:9 3. Added subsection on "Screen" defining resolution, it did not do anything ;( What can I do?
