[arch-general] [Classroom] Python for Beginners - Part 1

Hello, The class Python for Beginners - Part 1 will be held on Wednesday, October 04, 2017 at 16:00 UTC in the channel #archlinux-classroom on the freenode network. The class is expected to run for about 2 hours. This class will introduce you to programming with Python and how to use IPython with an editor/IDE. Commonly used built-in functions and libraries will be explained. Other topics will explored based on participant interests. The class will be screen-shared live (via YouTube), and later archived with subtitles. Questions and some discussion on IRC is expected, however the main part will be video and audio. In preparation for the class, install the Jupyter notebook. ``pacman -S jupyter`` or, in a Python 3 virtualenv, ``pip3 install jupyter``. [arch-general] Alternating colors in thunar?

Hello, I was used to see every second line in Thunar having a grey background - after updating, this has gone, every line now has white background. BTW, after some searching, it seems to be a GTK problem, probably not specific to Thunar. I'd guess, I haven't found the correct config, yet. How can I get the alternating background colors back? Hi, This morning's `pacman -Su' encountered (10/13) upgrading mlocate [######################] 100% warning: directory permissions differ on /var/lib/mlocate/ filesystem: 750 package: 755 (11/13) upgrading xkeyboard-config [######################] 100% when upgrading from version 0.26-6 to 0.26.git.20170220-1. [arch-general] sshd - limiting sequential no. or files opened via sftp in kate?

All, Not sure where to look for this. I have always kept kate projects different things like, different application development, different web-site editing, etc... Many of the projects I keep on my Arch server and have kate open the files via the sftp kioslave (or whatever it is called now) For some reason, now when I open remote projects on the server, the first 15 or so files open without issue. Anything over that fails with a connection error and the files are opened as "Untitled" and are empty (simply pressing "Reload" completes the opening without issue), but that has to occur after kate is open, and not when the project is attempting to load the files sequentially all at once. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I don't any longer, but there were times in the past I would have 120 files in a project and had no problems at all opening the project either across the LAN or remotes via the internet on my office server. So this seems like it is some protection designed to prevent hackers from hammering your server with ssh requests -- but it seems like it is having the side effect of preventing me from loading projects with more than say 20 files via sftp. -- David C. Have you ever met this after upgrading libvirt to 4.4.0-1? Never met this problem before I upgraded to 4.4.0-1, I use 4.3.0-1 before and all things worked fine. [arch-general] nvidia-lts version

Hello, is there a reason why the current nvidia-lts version is 396.24 but when checking https://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html it says it should be 390.67? I am asking because the current nvidia-driver is causing problems with Unity here and I was hoping to fall back to the nvidia-lts package until things are fixed. But they seem to be the same version in the repo currently. Best, Marc

All, I was adding a 4th Aur package, so I cloned an empty directory. Added the files, then $ makepkg --printsrcinfo > .SRCINFO $ makepkg -S --sign -f $ git commit -am "console-blanking-0.0.1-2" Then just to make sure .SRCINFO is there $ git ls-files .SRCINFO <== It is... LICENSE PKGBUILD console-blanking-0.0.1-2.src.tar.gz console-blanking-0.0.1-2.src.tar.gz.sig console-blanking.service But then when I push the file, it fails complaining about missing .SRCINFO, $ git push Counting objects: 22, done. Delta compression using up to 8 threads. Compressing objects: 100% (22/22), done. Writing objects: 100% (22/22), 42.27 KiB | 8.45 MiB/s, done.
