[arch-general] New install second drive issue

Morning folks I have just done a complete new install on a new drive , That is all working now fine . My problem comes when trying to include another drive on the system , it just refuses to boot fully , I get a message unable to mount sda2 now sda2 mounts , /dev/sda2 on / type xfs (rw,relatime,attr2,inode64,noquota) when just the one drive is in the system but as soon as i connect it refuses to to boot fully and drops out to an emergency shell that is locked up solid i. I have set the working drive in the bios this is an older motherboard with an AMD Phenome quad core CPU . $ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT sda 8:0 0 1.8T 0 disk ├─sda1 8:1 0 300M 0 part /boot ├─sda2 8:2 0 40G 0 part / ├─sda3 8:3 0 4G 0 part [SWAP] └─sda4 8:4 0 1.8T 0 part /home sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom the drive order in the bios is set correctly not that it makes much difference these days . I am stuck right now i need to be able to include the old drive to recover data from it . Any ideas folks .. Pete .

[arch-general] Time and date in 24 hour time can this be fixed?

Hi all, I am using arch linux with orca and mate desktop and have a strange problem or bug or something and was wondering if there was a way to fix it or work around it. I am using the America/New_York time zone so my time shows correctly at least according to orca. Orca gives me the time in 12 Hour format which is what I want, but when I look at an email such as in thunderbird, the time and date are given 24 hour format for example, 2019/14/09 11:00 rather than the u.s format I am used to. I read through the arch wiki and could not find anything on how to change the time format on the clock. Any ideas on how to change this? HW clock is set to UTC if that has anything to do with it. I tried to set it to locale time, but that messed up the system clock so had to switch it back. Thanks all. BTW, if this is sooted better for the orca list please let me know/. Thanks again all. All: For client tracking and recovery on reboots NFS provides some mechanisms. My understanding is that nfsdcld is considered replaced by nfsdcltrack. However, while there is a system service unit for nfsdcld there is nothing for nfsdcltrack. The binary for both is available. Only the systemd service file is missing. Further nfs-server service file hardcodes nfsdcld with no option to use nfsdcltrack instead. What is the modern preferred way for the server to do client tracking? Thanks, gene

[arch-general] Recommend new package : Postfix and MTA-STS (RFC8461)

Topic: Email Suggest: New package for officia repo [2] MTA-STS is taking off and the major email providers are supporting it. Details are described in RFC8461 [1] from Sep 2018. As of now it has support by Google (gmail), yahoo, comcast, hotmail and others. MTA-STS is a new standard that aims to improve the security of SMTP by enabling domain names to opt into strict transport layer security mode that requires authentication (with valid public certificates) and encryption (TLS). There are 2 components to this (a) Sending: Making email server advertise mta-sts (b) Receivng: Postfix needs policy daemon (a) is pretty straightforward to set up, (b) requires a daemon to support the policy for incoming mail. It would be pretty awesome if someone would think about an offocial postfix-mta-sts-resolve package [2]. Postfix can use this daemon - see some discussion on this here [5] where Wietse got involved as well. There is an AUR package but it is quite out of date and I think this would actually be better to be in the official repos if someone was interested in taking it on. Probably as an optional package for postfix This is important for any business use and of course for anyone running their own mail server on Arch. Over time it is likely that any server which does not turn this on at least for sending may find their email being disadvantaged. [arch-general] Nvidia HDMI Audio as Kernel Parameter

Hello all, I am using plain linux kernel 5.2.13 with proprietary nvidia driver 435.21 on my Nvidia Optimus (UHD 630 + 1050 Ti) notebook. Nothing fancy here and everything is up to date but in order to utilize HDMI audio over Nvidia card, I have to use this fix: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA/Troubleshooting#No_audio_over_H… This fix works. However either I need to manually execute those commands every time I boot (this causes X to restart) or I need to make a systemd service out of them and enable it to work on every boot (I got the idea from Nvidia forums). But systemd service sometimes makes X fail to start. So I was wondering if there is any kernel parameter with the same effect which I can apply BEFORE or DURING loading nvidia modules by simply adding it to boot options.
