Subject: I have successfully compiled and installed the latest Linux Kernel 7.0.0-1-mainline in Arch Linux 2026.04.01 Good day from Singapore, I had started performing a fresh new installation of Arch Linux 2026.04.01 on 17 Apr 2026 Friday at 6.08 pm Singapore Time. But I have not installed a GUI environment yet. I shall do that later. My main objective is to install the latest Linux Kernel 7.0.0-1-mainline first. At 7.47 PM on 17 Apr 2026 Friday, I had started compiling Linux Kernel 7.0.0-1-mainline from source code using yay. At 3.18 AM on 18 Apr 2026 Saturday, I have successfully compiled and installed Linux Kernel 7.0.0-1-mainline. The entire Linux Kernel compilation process took 7 hours and 31 minutes. Although my Arch Linux 2026.04.01 virtual machine has 4 CPU cores and 8 GB RAM, I made the mistake of forgetting to configure the Linux Kernel building process to use 4 CPU cores. I am using VMware Workstation Pro 25H2 version 25.0.0.24995812. To make the building process use 4 CPU cores, you need to edit the makepkg.conf file. This file controls how yay and makepkg handle compilation. $ sudo nano /etc/makepkg.conf Find the line that says MAKEFLAGS. It is usually commented out with a # at the beginning. Change it to look exactly like this: MAKEFLAGS="-j4" Note: Make sure to remove the # from the start of the line so the setting becomes active. The -j4 flag tells the compiler to run 4 parallel jobs at once. Since my previous build took over 7 hours on 1 core, this setting should cut that time down to roughly 1.5 to 2 hours for future updates. Note: Ensure you have assigned at least 8GB of RAM to your VM before using 4 cores, as each build job requires its own memory. As I have grossly forgotten to make the above changes, in the end my Linux Kernel 7.0.0-1-mainline building process took 7 hours and 31 minutes on only 1 CPU core. Well, both, Debian and Ubuntu package older versions of ngspice (and KiCad). And they do not ship shared objects. Only *.cm files. Which do export CMdecNum. Bring ARM into the fold?

Is it time to bring Arch Linux ARM into the fold of Arch Linux? The GNU toolchain of ALARM is now very behind, and the developers are dead silent about why. There little to no response on pull requests on the github page, and while it seems like there is activity on their PKGBUILDs repo, it almost seems to me that it is some kind of automatic jobs being run. Their forum is broken and has been broken for quite some time as well. -- chs

Hi all, I noticed that when I tried to simulate in KiCAD, errors occured: Error: ngspice.dll cannot recover and awaits to be reset or detached ****** ** ngspice-46 shared library ** Creation Date: Mon Mar 30 04:12:14 UTC 2026 ****** Error finding the number of devices: ../lib/ngspice/ivlng.so: undefined symbol: CMdevNum Error: Library ../lib/ngspice/ivlng.so couldn't be loaded! Error finding the number of devices: ../lib/ngspice/ivlng.vpi: undefined symbol: CMdevNum Error: Library ../lib/ngspice/ivlng.vpi couldn't be loaded! Did anyone come to the same situation? I found https://github.com/archlinux/infrastructure/blob/master/docs/matrix.md which leads to logging in using arch account which I have, but I can't login to matrix using it (assumption: package maintainer only?) I also saw #public-space:archlinux.org and #archlinux:archlinux.org, again I couldn't join. What am I missing?

gnucash-5.15-2 crashing. Probably some buggy dependency?

Hi all, since I updated GnuCash yesterday (5.14-3 -> 5.15-2) it keeps crashing with: $ gnucash budget_2026.gnucash This is a development version. It may or may not work. I changed the permissions to 0755 but I'm pretty sure that this is not the reason. Changing permissions back to 1777 didn't help. I'm pretty certain that the GnuCash file (sqlite) is not corrupted because the crash also appears with files from the last years. Since a whole bunch of other packages were updated as well and a downgrading to 5.14-3 didn't resolve the issue I suspect that some dependency is causing this. Is anyone else experiencing that issue? The Scratch package is still on 1.4

Hi, I noticed the scratch package in the extra repository is for the Squeak-based v1.4 editor. Are there any plans to replace it with the much more up-to-date Electron version which someone has already packaged in the AUR as scratch3? If not could the package be renamed to avoid confusion or dropped to the AUR? Thanks!
