I'm failing to find where to do this. The Settings>Notifications switch does not seem to control notifications--at least under the Cinnamon desktop environment.
For me, they take up a huge amount of screen real estate, all too often right where I'm trying to read something. And to be honest, I don't need them. Mostly they seem to originate from Thunderbird, but I'm assuming there are other sources as well.
How can one make these go away?
The notification daemon listens on D-Bus session bus at service org.freedesktop.Notifications, object /org/freedesktop/Notifications. Find out the process providing this service, and decide for yourself whether it's safe to disable it.
