In this context, I had shared a link where systemd devs had suggested gnome devs to consider adding systemd as a dependency due to some funcitonality which was present in systemd only. [1]
What is going on I am not sure, but this shows that GNOME in future is going to have a hard dependency on systemd.

If somebody doesn't want to use systemd, IMO it's easy to quit GNOME. I don't think that gcalctool and other small apps will have a dependency chain, as well as GTK. Or could it become that extreme? Sorry for the noob question, Ralf
