(From arch-dev-public) - One dependency version update requires Arch Linux package maintainer update a series of packages which depend on this package. (Unlike Python, Haskell is compiled language with low ABI compatibility across different version). Unless maintainers are willing to evaluate the changelog of every dependency, static linking in any language requires rebuilding of the entire dependency chain to pass fixes. So this is neither a gain nor loss compared to the current model.
