After a routine upgrade it seems I don't have any sound devices any more.
What do you call a "routine upgrade". Which package were involved (kernel ? alsa ? ...).

I suspect udev fails to do the right things.
* /etc/udev/rules.d is empty * /etc/udev/udev.conf contains only the line udev_log="err"
There is nothing wrong here. Nearly same state here (only a few rules in rules.d, unrelated to sound) and sound is working correctly (only using intel_hda crap on that computer). This is a professional studio and I'm expecting clients tomorrow at 09:00.
Emergency solution would be to rollback all updated packages from the culprit upgrade session. -- Cédric Girard
