And for adding more confusion, on another system where even gutenprint is installed, it works fine - so it's not a general issue.

The solution is always found self after posting to a mailinglist: it seems to be caused by avahi - after stopping/disabling it, ippfind/lpinfo -m don't hang any more. Regards Bjoern
