Definitely nothing even close to that. I do note that, as I mentioned, /var/run and /var/lock were symlinks, which I think is a change from about six months ago. I'm about to try the suggested sequence:
pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem --ignore glibc pacman -S --force filesystem --ignore glibc pacman -Sd <everything you couldn't upgrade due to ignored glibc> pacman -Su
