Now, how would that actually help me? (In the best case it'll just stop me from upgrading a package on which my tool depends... I still have to recompile my tool.) (And BTW the "niche or obscure" tools I mention are just simple executables (some done by me, some from the Internet) which I wouldn't even call "packages"...)
