Thanks; I've tried various combinations. Mostly, I've used en_GB.UTF-8, as that matches the entry in locale.conf, and worked fine previously. Your original message was sent in reply to a message digest. I'm replying in the actual thread in the interests of keeping the threads connected. Paul
