[arch-general] Radeon HD 5xxx
I am now an owner of a Radeon HD 5870. But... lspci reports it as: VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 6898 I am running testing. Also, the feature matrix linked to by the ATI page on the wiki indicates that HD 5xxx cards are supported by xf86-video-ati, as does the wiki. What's the situation on this? -- Cordialement, Andrew Allen Barkley () /\ against html e-mail against proprietary attachments www.asciiribbon.org

The problem I'm having is something crashes after executing startx, crashing the system as well. To get back up and running I have to hard reboot. Xorg.0.log is empty. -- Cordialement, Andrew Allen Barkley () /\ against html e-mail against proprietary attachments www.asciiribbon.org

Support for ATI Evergreen gpus is coming along well now, you should be able to use it just fine. Do you have an xorg.conf set up? Try running X manually: Xorg :0 -br -nolisten tcp vt7 -logfile $HOME/Xorg.log -logverbose 99 I'm not sure what the firmware situation is for that gpu, but do you have linux-firmware installed?
