[arch-general] Arch kernel
I'm trying to find out what is the Arch mainline kernel. In https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Compilation#Compilation it is said that it is the vanilla kernel plus 3 patches. Which patches? The link is broken. (And is this the proper place to report it?) TIA Jorge Almeida

That's the 3.5 version, with only 2 patches. Anyway, maybe I should be more clear about what I'm trying to do: I want to keep a customized kernel that would be just the mainline (stable) Arch kernel, except for some differences in the configuration. This kernel is to be updated whenever the mainline kernel is updated (IOW, I want to keep both kernels). This means downloading the source, applying patches etc., and thus I need a reliable way to know how the current stable mainline kernel was made. Briefly, a page like your link but for the current stable. Thanks Jorge

Instead of building your own kernel, you might want to open a bug request at the bug tracker, to include the modules that are not in the kernel, but are needed by you.

Sure, but it's not a case of missing modules! I don't want to use a kernel with CONFIG_GENERIC_CMOS_UPDATE=y (I'm not sure whether this could be a module), and I'm not sure about CONFIG_RTC_HCTOSYS=y either. IOW, I can't consider this a bug, it's just a feature I hate. It's not the first time I build a kernel, as I was a Gentoo user, but I want to build and maintain one that is so closed to mainline Arch as possible, to minimize future work. Thanks, Jorge

I just did it and I got a PKBUILD for linux 3.5. The current version is 3.4.7-1 (synced just a few minutes ago). Maybe the mirror I used was not synced? Can you check the kernel version you have (assuming you synced recently)? Thanks J.

That's a web view to a git repository. You can see the whole history of the package or even clone it yourself. https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/log/trunk?h=packages/li... -- дамјан

Indeed it is. This is the correct URL. Thanks. J.
Can't you just get the sources through ABS and change the config before building the package? Leonardo Dagnino 2012/8/1 Jorge Almeida <jjalmeida@gmail.com>

What would be the point? Wouldn't it add another level of indirection? I don't want to change the config file by hand, as that may not be safe... J.

ABS has the same data, but it is updated later. Even the git repository is delayed. If you want the live data, get this: svn co svn://svn.archlinux.org/packages/linux/repos/core-x86_64/

Ah, OK. It appears as a link in Gmail, and I just clicked. I guess I'll have to learn about svn. Thanks J.

Its not editing it by hand, just run make [xg ]config before makepkg. Leonardo Dagnino

Well, OK, but I think it is better to compile the kernel "off-pacman". Others already mentioned that abs may not be updated as soon as the core repo. Tanks Jorge Almeida
