[arch-general] any IEEE 802.11ax wifi 6 USB devices supported by gnu+linux (even external dkms)?
I’m looking for upgrading to wifi 6 (802.11ax), but I’m not able to find gnu+linux supported usb devices. WPA3 seems a winner, and the fact devices don’t interfere with each others (at least not as much as wifi 5 and lesser), plus better signal spectrum, and perhaps getting where it was harder before, then I’m willing to upgrade, however, it seems only ms-windows and maybe some mac supported, usb devices can be found. Could it be it’ll take even further to get them into gnu+linux? Thanks ! -- Javier

wifi 6 is already supported. From my laptop: [ 3.411497] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: Detected Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz, REV=0x351

That's great ! Probably not a usb wifi device right? I'm looking for usb ones, since the mini-pcs I'm using don't come with wifi 6 integrated. I bet your intel wireless is integrated in the board, :( That's why I mentioned support for usb devices... -- Javier

There is nothing good available. Drivers for Relatek RTL8832AU exist as an out-of-tree module, but they seem to be bad. Drivers for Mediatek mt7921u are being upstreamed, but there are no adapters for sale yet. That's sad. I guess it'll be next year at the best (not just that there are no current ones, but add on top supply chain issues, plus semiconductors issues). Perhaps I wast some money to work around my current issues, and evaluate later. The sad thing is that WPA3 is not available in most APs, unless wifi 6... Thanks a lot ! -- Javier

Little bit off-topic, but if you you can flash your AP to e.g. OpenWRT you can get WPA3 support pretty easily. Unifi also supports WPA3 on their AC gen APs.

Ohh, yes, though I still need to change a bit, although not to wifi 6[e], :( We'll see if what I get, is supported by openwrt... Thanks ! -- Javier
