[arch-general] bugs.archlinux.org - enable comments on closed issues
Hi, This is annoying that the reporter can't leave any comment after the issue is closed. No, I don't want to "Request re-open". The issue is closed for a good reason, no doubt. But closing the issue shouldn't end the discussion - the reporter may want to add something. Can you please consider changing this? Thanks. -- Kind regards, Damian Nowak StratusHost www.AtlasHost.eu

It should do exactly that. The bugtracker is not a discussion board, it's a bug tracker. Fixed bugs are not tracked. If you need a discussion, there's plenty of other possibilities for that.
Sometimes people just want to say "thanks for fixing", though. - Alexander / xyproto

But this is not really useful; IIRC, even Stack Overflow (the Stack Exchange network, for that matter) doesn't encourage "thank you"s. The policy here is not much different from the forums, you see: if you want to continue the discussion, usually you just open a new thread (or bug) referencing the old one. -- - Thiago

I just realized the case here is not about being utilitarian or useful. It's about being a human. Closing an issue and preventing the reporter from adding anything to the topic isn't respectful. The same goes with moving the package from AUR to community without letting the current customer know. I remember a few people expressing their dissatisfaction on the list. Again, sending an e-mail doesn't bring any value - but it's respectful to send an e-mail. Will anything bad happen if these policies are changed? From the utilitarian point of view absolutely nothing will change for worse. From the human point of view, some reporters and AUR maintainers will feel better. And I think this is really important. :-) -- Kind regards, Damian Nowak StratusHost www.AtlasHost.eu

Sorry but I am not following you: who owes respect to who? Disabling comments as issues are closed saves valuable developer time, not because of the occasional "thank you" but because comments on bug reports are prone to quickly degenerate into childish rants.

There are no customers, but the users and maintainer should be told, yes. -- Gaetan
