You go to Arch Linux mailing list to ask a question about youtube and wget, and you're using linuxmint? :| On Wed, May 02, 2012 at 12:32:43PM +0530, Debashish Saha wrote:

LOL ok thanks for your educational reminder. Next time I will RTFM of n00bs before replying to something that deserves as much of a poking as it does an answer. Honestly to me if you are using a different OS, make no claim to using Arch and you decide to post to here to find an answer, a poking is well deserved.

To the OP: I had Mint Lisa installed and dropped it. I recommend to install Arch Linux or to replace Mint by Ubuntu Studio Precise (don't care about the "studio", the important thing is the default DE). I've got a Linux multi boot machine, Arch Linux is amazing, but you need to do a lot yourself. Ubuntu Studio Precise has advantages and disadvantages compared to Arch Linux. IMO Mint isn't a good choice. Just 2 Cents, Ralf

Find the pointy metal thing probably in pocket.conf and put it in the port next to the steering wheel and turn it on. If that fails you might have to push I'm afraid. p.s. Diesel for trucks and cars are two very different things ;-)

A poking, or an RTFM, sure. All I'm saying is that what you posted doesn't help the noob. RTFM helps the noob. Pointing out that this place has nothing to do with Mint, even mockingly (even at Drepper levels of intensity), helps the noob. "Making a joke" that is only a joke to people who know enough not to do the thing the noob did does not help the noob. It's not your responsibility to help, it's also not your responsibility to hinder. We were all dumb noobs once, and I for one don't feel good if I plant misinformation in someones head, intentionally or not. YMMV, of course.

+1 Not replying at all is preferable to replying sarcastically in a manner that might be misconstrued (however naively) as serious advice.

seriously to funny if the OP would have taken my joke seriously it would have/should have lead him to doing more research. Which is what they were lacking, obviously by posting to Arch mailing lists. It is not like I said rm -rf / or some malicious suggestion. The +1's are as pointless and unhelpful to the OP as my "joke"

It's not about commands. Archlinux is a different distribution than linux mint. This list mainly involves arch related discussions. As for linux mint mailing list: http://librelist.com/browser/linuxmint/ (it's not an official list) You will be better off using linux mint forums: http://forums.linuxmint.com/ PS: Just curious, how did you land on arch mailing list? Are you using arch too? Also, please learn to use search engines.

We get these on occasion. The general theory is that they do use google but the choice to post to the arch mailing list or forums is at best a random selection, based on the top search results for their query. -- GPG/PGP ID: C0711BF1

First, you should learn how to use google. Second, if I were you (I mean to be new in GNU/Linux world), I'd first go with some GUI downloader, such as freerapid or minitube. Lukas

youtube-dl is a commandline one in arch and mint repos and keeps the source file. Mini-tube is cool and saves copying the url but converts it to mp4, as if everyone wants to use mp4 and conversions equal data loss. Every so often the youtube api changes and these programs need fixing.
