[arch-general] LightDM hangs when checking the password
Hi :) I wonder if it's an issue with linux-rt 3.10.6-rt3 or randomly something else went wrong. Perhaps caused by 3.10.6-rt3 or not, but a security process or similar seems to be locked on my machine. After installing and booting into the 3.10.6-rt3 an update hanged when checking the keyring. I had to remove /var/lib/pacman/db.lck and could update using 3.10.6-2-ARCH, but when I now try to start a session for 3.10.6-rt3, LightDM hangs when checking the password, I only was able to start one session for this kernel. After downgrading to 3.8.13-rt14-1-rt there isn't this issue anymore and even with 3.10.6-rt3 there were no issues when I want to log in booted in kernel 3.10.6-2-ARCH. In don't know what to check. What log searching for what information. At the moment I simply use 3.8.13-rt14-1-rt. Regards, Ralf

Just a FYI, the linux-rt kernel patch is very much a work in progress and can be very broken at times. I am not saying that this is the case with your problem, just a general caveat... Since Archlinux users seem to always want the latest, I try make the AUR script the latest version while the kernel in the archaudio production repo is a version that I'm reasonably sure is a well working version. At the moment it's on 3.8.11-rt8... Unfortunately apart from the kernel that I maintain there, the rest of archaudio is more or less dead, due to (I think) the AUR and a general lack of interest. To install the kernel from the archaudio repo, add the following to your pacman.conf [archaudio-production] SigLevel = Never Server = http://repos.archaudio.org/$repo/$arch --- Joakim

Thank you Joakim :) you do the right thing with providing always the latest kernel and I'm aware about linux-rt issues, that's why I keep kernel packages for a while separated from the pacman and yaourt cache. $ ls /usr/src/pkg-linux-rt/ linux-rt-3.10.6_rt3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.11_rt8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt13-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt14-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt11-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.10.6_rt3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt13-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.11_rt8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt14-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-3.8.13_rt9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt11-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.10.6_rt3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.11_rt8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt13-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt14-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-docs-3.8.13_rt11-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz linux-rt-headers-3.8.13_rt9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz That I can log in and email using 3.8.13-rt14-1-rt doesn't mean, that I can run an old audio session I might have done with 3.8.11-rt8-1-rt, so I at least keep kernel packages for kernels I used for audio production for a while.
