[arch-general] e2fsprogs installation failed
Hey, today, while updating my system, the update for e2fsprogs failed with the following error message: Fehler: Konnte usr/share/locale/pl/LC_MESSAGES/e2fsprogs.mo nicht entpacken (Lzma library error: Corrupted input data) Fehler: Fehler traten auf, während e2fsprogs aktualisiert wurde Fehler: Befehl konnte nicht korrekt ausgeführt werden Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang nicht durchführen Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang nicht durchführen (Vorgang abgebrochen) Fehler sind aufgetreten, keine Pakete wurden aktualisiert. UNfortunately I can only provide the original error message in german, as LANG setting does not work because libcom_err.so is not found which belongs to e2fsprogs. What it generally says is that it could not unpack usr/share/locale/pl/LC_MESSAGES/e2fsprogs.mo because of an Lzma library error, related to corrupted data. Can someone help me out? Best regards, Heiko

32-bit or 64-bit? Updating to e2:fsprogs-1.42.10-1-x86_64 did work here at >= 08:33 +0200. Did you reinstall the package xz, just in case the error isn't caused by the package e2fsprogs, but something should be fishy with xz?

Hey, thanks for the fast response. Running on i686 so this should be 64 Bit. Unfortunately I can't install or reinstall anything at the moment as pacman crashes wit an error for a lock of the library libcom_err.so which is part of e2fsprogs.
Hello, Perhaps you could manually download the package tarballs (from the Arch official repositories web interface) and extract the pertinent files from them where they belong. As a last resort, you could boot an Arch Live environment and use pacstrap after mounting the relevant partitions: # pacstrap /mnt pacman e2fsprogs BTW, i686 is a 32-bit architecture. Even if your processor supports the x86_64 architecture, what matters is what your OS was built for; if you're using i686 packages, your system is running in 32-bit mode.

You never know, JFTR did somebody upgrade to e2fsprogs 1.42.10-1 [core] (i686)? On my machine upgrading to e2fsprogs 1.42.10-1 [core] (x86_64) did _not_ cause an issue.

Thanks. As I can't login into the machine, I will try this on tuesday, when I'm back at my work computer. Best regards, Heiko
