[arch-general] KDE-unstable - kapps crash on start (konqueror, kmail, etc.)
Listmates: On my i686 box I am experiencing crashes for many of the default 'k'apps like konqueror, kmail, etc. I have provided the backtraces to kde.org. I went back and installed the kdemod3 kde3.5 to have access to the kde3.5 versions of the same apps within kde4.3. I don't know if the Arch developers are interested in me providing the backtraces or not. Let me know if you want them and I will send them in. The remainder of kde43 is working well. Still some quirks, no doubt, but impressive. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. There are two rather strange rules to keep in mind if you want to run kdemod3 and kde-unstable in parallel. (1) kde-unstable must the the LAST group of packages you install or you will get the crashes described above with virtually all 'k'apps for kde4. If you do install kdemod3 after installing kde-unstable, then just re-install kde (0 byte download, just reinstall) and it will solve the problems (2) After uninstalling/reinstalling kde/kdemod3, run 'updatedb' and your box will be much happier. -- David C.
