[arch-general] Network gurus - Weird datadump -- looks like dns or wins (or both) - anybody know what caused it? (read more)
Guys, Not very often, but every now and then you see something you haven't seen before and wonder, "WTF?" "How did I do that?". What is shown below 'happened' when I was doing a simple move on a file, really. The command was: 'mv Documents AnswerSMTV.odt' (I have scp'ed a file to the server under :~/Documents -- but I didn't have a ~/Documents directory -- thus the need for a move) Note: none of the transfers below involved my other laptop 'zephyr' so I don't know why its hostname popped up. From the looks of the output it looks like a dump of my reverse zone, except that hosts 'nemesis', 'bonza', 'elder' and 'providence' are not on my home lan, they are boxes at my office, so it is something more than that. And, why the directory information scattered within what got spit out? The directories are those in my $HOME directory The 'curiosity-killed-the-cat' side of me just wants to know what process spit this stuff out. Any ideas? (complete dump follows below -- I get there was a timeout involved) 14:09 nirvana:~> mv Documents AnswerSMTV.odt 14:09 nirvana:~> scp AnswerFailed to resolve service 'zephyr [00:11:f5:15:2d:83]' of type '_workstation._tcp' in domain 'local': Timeout reached SMTV.odt Failed to resolve service 'zephyr [00:11:f5:15:2d:83]' of type '_workstation._tcp' in domain 'local': Timeout reached Failed to resolve service 'zephyr [00:11:f5:15:2d:83]' of type '_workstation._tcp' in domain 'local': Timeout reached 192.168.6.101: bonza.rbpllc.com: nemesis.rbpllc.com: 192.168.6.102: bugs/ nirvana: 192.168.6.112: cnf/ nirvana.3111skyline.com: 192.168.6.113: dcrgx: nirvana.local: 192.168.6.118: dcrgx2: pdf/ 192.168.6.121: dcrgx2.3111skyline.com: providence: 192.168.6.131: dcrgx2.local: providence.rankinfirm.com: 192.168.6.14: dcrgx.3111skyline.com: providence.rbpllc.com: 192.168.6.149: Desktop/ public_html/ 192.168.6.15: dev/ rankinfirm.com: 192.168.6.150: doc/ rankin-p35a: 192.168.6.16: dt/ rankin-p35a.3111skyline.com: 192.168.6.18: ecstacy: rbpllc.com: 192.168.6.19: ecstasy: ripper: 192.168.6.2: ecstasy.3111skyline.com: ripper.3111skyline.com: 192.168.6.20: elder: scr/ 192.168.6.24: elder.rbpllc.com: supersff: 66.76.63.60: fonts/ supersff.3111skyline.com: alchemy: ftp: supersff.local: alchemy.3111skyline.com: GNUstep/ suse/ alchemy.local: img/ themes/ AnswerSMTV.odt kidsdell: tmp/ apps/ killerz: trinity: arch/ killerz.3111skyline.com: windows/ archangel: lakehouse: www: archangel.3111skyline.com: lakehouse.3111skyline.com: zephyr: archangel.local: localhost: zephyr.3111skyline.com: arete: mail: zion: arete.3111skyline.com: Mail/ zion.3111skyline.com: bin/ mmedia/ bonza: nemesis: 14:09 nirvana:~> scp AnswerSMTV.odt Got SIGINT, quitting. ^C (I have no clue what was canceled by the ctrl+c, the move completed successfully) The long and short of it -- there were no ill effects. The dump occurred, and things just kept clicking right along... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
